I would agree with you, I have always enjoyed that album. I don't know if it would quite surpass ... and Nico. That album blew my mind.

Well to be fair... I wouldn't say Radiohead ripped off BoC, but it's pretty clear exactly what song they were using for inspiration in All You Need. They literally slowed down the melody of Roygbiv. The other two don't really sound all that similar to me... Sure they're using a similar progression but definitely not the same at all.

Aphex Twin and Boards of Canada are way overrated, probably because not many have heard electronica before the 90s. They are pretty much middle of the road stuff for the 90s anyway and not that inventive.

I find that The Red Krayola, Kevin Ayers, and Joe Meek are fairly underrated musicians.
The Red Krayola was one of the first bands to experiment with rock music. Their album, God Bless the Red Krayola and All Who Sail with It, is really interesting and unique (I am surprised at how little attention it receives). They, Godz, and Friend Sound are largely overshadowed by Frank Zappa, Captain Beefheart, and The Velvet Underground in terms of 60's experimental rock. Joe Meek had a lot of influence over the development of space rock. Not to mention his album, I Hear a New World, experimented a lot of popular music and electronics (and that was in 1960). Kevin Ayers, a former member of Soft Machine, has established a very strong discography over the years. His albums Joy of a Toy, The Confessions of Dr. Dream and Other Stories, and Shooting at the Moon are all brilliant and meld together a variety of genres and experimentation within each (he completely redefined psychedelic and progressive rock). Albeit, I haven't listened to everything he has made, but I can safely say I won't be disappointed when I do. Last edited by TockTockTock; 05-15-2011 at 10:44 AM. |

Silver Apples are pretty underrated, they probably "invented" electronica but that dubious distinction goes to Tangerine Dream and Kraftwerk, not that I have anything against those two.
"Can" I think is slightly overrated, cos there are only what? 2 awesome albums? |
