Lou Reed's New York is criminally underrated - i think it's up there with VU's best, if not surpassing them.

most overrated: Radiohead (I've thought that for years)

I love Radiohead but I agree that they are overrated. No critic has the balls to slag anything they do off but In Rainbows and the new one are well bellow par. The only interesting track on In Rainbows rips off Boards of Canada.

Corey Hart? I don't think I've even heard anything else by him besides Sunglasses At Night

It's a decent album, but I wouldn't rank it with VU's best (which I am assuming are their first two albums). I think you can make a valid argument of it being on par with their self-titled or Loaded, though.

I was watching a special a few days ago on phil collins and genesis. I personally think that Phil Collins is kind of overrated. A lot of his songs are just depressing and Genesis seemed to have changed there sound dramatically within the 5 years Peter Gabriel was absent from the band. They went from prog masterpieces to synthesized commercial music throughout the 80's. I don't understand all the hype Phil Collins era Genesis got and still gets to this day.

As for underrated I'd have to go with Love. Granted there are a lot of people on the forum that know about this band, but ask an average joe from the street and they wouldn't have a clue who they are and how they've influenced other artists. Arthur Lee main inovator of the band Love, told Jac Holzman the president of Elektra records to check out a little band at the Whiskey called The Doors. Weeks later The Doors put out there debut. Syd Barrett of Pink Floyd also was heavly influenced by the Love song My Little Red Book which helped him create Interstellar Overdrive. Great band , great sound and kind of overlooked.

it's just slight below VU & Nico. I don't like White Light/White Heat much, except for The Gift - Sister Ray I always preferred the 30-minute live version I got on a bootleg

I agree, Radiohead are overrated, but I just don't like them. Also, their whole personality/style expressed in the songs makes them more comparable to post-Barrett era Pink Floyd, early Muse and U2 and not at all like The Velvet Underground or Sonic Youth.

New York and White Light/White Heat are excellent.

They could have at least tried to rip off a great band then.
