you're kidding me right?

Kings of Leon had two good, solid albums (their first two) and have kind of dwindled out since then. They have a MASSIVE amount of praise and I know a fair few people who think they're god's gift to music. If anything, they're quite overrated, not underrated.

That must surely be sarcasm.

I've rarely seen anybody arbitrarily give the Stones a title they didn't deserve. And they do deserve quite a bit, considering their influence, longevity and whatnot.
Firstly I'd like to make clear that I think they're great and a lot of their songs definitely has to rank as some of the finest rock ever made. But for a band supposedly that big and praised I feel they are rather limited in scope. I don't care much for their barroom-blues approach prevalent in most of their work.

The objection that they don't claim to be anything more than they are reminds me of a girl during my teens who played in a punk band, and she commented on an article writing off their performance at a nearby gig as non-serious: - Well, we are not serious so it's hard for us to play serious music.

Ok, I may scratch that. I just feel that Yes are kinda overlooked among certain otherwise artrock-loving people. From people in general it's usually like: - Yeah, I think I've heard about them. "Owner of a lonely heart", right?

Well, I wouldn't have so much problem with their fandom if it was backed up by them playing extraordinary music. For the same reason I could put Pink Floyd on the list as well, since they always seem to be the first choice of aspiring art/prog rockers, but they were on the other hand true inventors.

do you care to elaborate on why they are overrated?
I'm not saying that everyone who listens to them are trying to feel artsy, I'm not even saying that anyone who listens to them are. I just find their fandom to be generally close-minded towards art rock in general. Which is a pity, since so many people therefore miss out on other great bands.

Regarding why I think they're overrated as a band, check out my reply to Clutnuckle above.

Sorry my sarcasm does not come across too well over the internet :P I agree although they are not so much over rated as over played!

if you aren't being sarcastic, that may be the problem...

all of my friends that listen to radiohead are fairly open-minded in regards to music as a whole. I have trouble getting people into them.

all I get from this: they are popular and it annoys me, they don't play extraordinary music, and they were true inventors. you are still being quite vague.

which album do you consider their most overrated?

I've yet to meet any teens who think listening to classic rock makes them "deep and cool". If anything, plain-ol-60's-70's-and-80's-rock is the least culpable genre in producing that sense of superiority.

OVERRATED: Autechre (even though I admit to being a fanboy)
UNDERRATED: Extra Life!

Let me state my opinion again: I believe they are overrated as a creative art band considering their general popularity. That doesn't mean I myself don't like them (which is somewhat true although I definitely recognize their talents). I just don't see their appeal according to what people in general claim it to be, i.e. why they ought to be rated any higher than contemporary art bands like Blur, Flaming Lips etc. And mind you, I'm not talking about anyone's personal tastes here.

I suppose this may be a regional phenomenom since I obviously encounter it here in Sweden, while it may be less significant in other countries. I could name another typical example in the swedish band Kent, whose style is quite similar to Radiohead and who are also sort of over-emphasized in terms of mainly emotionality (although their appeal seems to be less of an artsy character). That said, I actually like Kent myself, and more so than Radiohead but once again, that may be a national thing.

I still hold that this album is massively underrated:
