Yeah, Wire magazine comissioned a review of the Zappa material, and this guy Ian Penman turns in an unbalanced rant that swipes out at anything within reach : his own perception of the Zappa fan, other Zappa reviewers and the principle of a Ryko re-issue, none of which are Zappa`s responsibility.

Underrated: Count Bass D, most know him as "that guy that works with doom sometimes" but he really is an amazing producer and unique mc. Dwight Spitz is one of my favorite hiphop albums

Lady Gaga and Michael Jackson are way too overrated imo.

A lot of pop punk like Paramore is overrated and well known classic rock bands - both are overrated by pretentious teens -_-

As for underrated...too many bands are underrated. A mainstream artist who I think is underrated is Avril Lavigne. Too much music snobbery is thrown at her and most of it (not all of it) is undeserved.

Overrated: The Beatles (I love lots if their songs), Elvis Presley (same) and most of the artist nowadays

Underrated: ROGER WATERS (just because he was an as*hole doesn't mean that he doesn't deserve some recognition), David Gilmour, Pink Floyd, Shania Twain and David Bowie

Paramore is crap, but I'm more interesting in which "classic rock bands" you find "overrated by pretentious teens -_-"

Underrated? Really? I don't think you can rate Bowie much higher than he already is.

Overrated

Rolling Stones - Simply the most overrated band in history. Their songs are just generally underwritten and repetitive, the albums are padded with filler and their playing is somewhat sloppy.
Bob Dylan - Musically overrated but I gotta give him props for opening up the lyrical paradigm and not giving a f**k about what his audience might think about him.
Bruce Springsteen - He epitomizes populist rock at its most disgusting.
Johnny Cash - Yeah yeah, man in black and all that. Country just doesn't cut it for me and I don't really understand some people's obsession with him without being into country otherwise.
Radiohead - Always mentioned as the artsy choice for nerds like myself but I kinda feel they are more appealing to the mainstream crowd that somewhat feel like they want to be more artsy than they are.
U2 - Not that I really know anyone who actually listens to them, but they're huge, and undeservedly so.

Underrated

Yes - I've managed to turn people onto Genesis, Jethro Tull, Camel, Rush and ELP, but for some reason I'm still to succeed with Yes in that department.
Ween - The best meta-band ever, and noone seems to even have heard about them.
Budgie - Anyone into Sabbath should give these guys a go. More intelligent too.
ELO - Remembered for all the wrong reasons, but few people beat Jeff Lynne at writing stunning hooks in the 70's.
Steve Harley/****ney Rebel - People seem to go on about Roxy Music without even having heard of this dude, although he just as much contributed to what would become new wave and even britpop later on. (censorship )
Gryphon - I'm out on a limb here, since they aren't that well-known but I urge anyone who is looking for really authentic medieval folk to look up their first album. And they were no slouches on symphonic prog either later on.
Sweet - Past the bubblegum singles, that is. Their albums were filled with more-than-decent hard rock from 1974 and onward.

When has anybody claimed the Stones to be anything more than the exemplification of that kind of 'sloppy' playing? They never 'get claimed' to be more than they actually are (ie. "The Rolling Stones invented world music with those bongo-things in "Sympathy for the Devil"!!!"). I'm not a fan or anything, but all of the credit they get is completely fair. I've rarely seen anybody arbitrarily give the Stones a title they didn't deserve. And they do deserve quite a bit, considering their influence, longevity and whatnot.

Don't see how this kind of thing makes them underrated. Especially on this site.

I get you here. I feel sorry for this band; the fundamentalist sect of their fanbase kind of ruin everything.

I don't listen to radiohead to feel artsy. I listen to radiohead because they are fucking fantastic. and most of their music is quite straightforward, not avant-garde.

do you care to elaborate on why they are overrated?

what exactly are these "fanboys" ruining? they have music, you either like it or you don't.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not at all criticising any bands or artists. They just get overrated by teens who think that listening to older music makes you really deep and cool.
