I'm actually surprised at your opinion on this, considering you like Pinback so much. Not to say that they are all that similar, but to an extent they are and they are two of my favorites in the genre. Maybe it's that I got into The Shins so early on in their career that their sound was not bland at all at the time, and their influence on other indie bands has made that type of sound seem more normal/bland/common since then. I dunno. I'm just saying I like The Shins in pretty much the exact same way that I like Pinback.

I'd love to see your signature/links too, but the huge and obnoxious ones have caused me to block all signatures.

I saw the Morning Benders open for the Arctic Monkeys and it bored me to death...

Aw but I put Pinback in a league of their own and I find it hard to compare them to any band I'm familiar with. They're pretty unique and exciting to me.

How exactly is Pinback "unique" and "exciting"?

The vocal style and the emphasis on the bass guitar really cause them to stick out for me.

If I wanna hear emphasis on the bass guitar I'm probably not listening to Pinback.

They sound like generic indie pop to me...

To each their own...but compared to a lot of other indie bands, there is a lot of emphasis on bass in Pinback's music, and I also think they have a pretty distinct sound. I can see someone thinking it sounds generic and boring, but I don't personally think so.

You might take interest in Three Mile Pilot, particularly their early stuff before they brought in electric guitars. Armistead Burwell Smith IV (aka Zach Smith) of Pinback on bass and Pall Jenkins (who later formed The Black Heart Procession) on vocals (admittedly an acquired taste) and later also guitar. They just released their first album in 13 years today, but they've lost the aggression/darkness they previously had and it sounds more like Pinback. I still like it, and RVCA might too, but for you Violent & Funky I recommend Three Mile Pilot's Nà Vuccà Dò Lupù (1992) or The Chief Assassin to the Sinister (1994). Dark, murky, foggy stuff. It's not bass virtuoso stuff, but it's very heavily bass-driven and unique. You may like it, you may hate it, you may not care one way or another. Maybe RVCA will like it.

Spoiler for some videos:

This one actually sounds a bit like Pinback:
