Have you heard Isotope 217? They're a Tortoise side project. I posted about them earlier. They're due a bit more love here.

Unless you want to count the 36 cassette tapes they recorded on a few years before it's their bloody debut album.
As for Godspeed, they're certainly inaccessible. But when I'm in the mood to spend 85 minutes listening to an album it's a time of rejoice.

though i must say, going back to the GYBE thing, they bore me to tears. i've tried over the years, and a few friends quite like them, it's just too much of the same slow build up over the same tired marching beat with the same tired violin climax. |

The more electronic kind; Battles, Maserati and God Is An Astronaut fit here The more "Classical Music Made With Guitars" kind that most of us stereotype post-rock as (The above song is my favourite EITS song, BTW) Mono, GY!BE, and sometimes Mogwai fit here The post rock that doesn't fit into the two categories above, but is still post-rock Don Caballero, Tortoise, and Slint fit here. The post rock that is quite heavy, but isn't quite metal yet. Russian Circles, Red Sparowes and And So I Watch You From Afar fit here. sorry about this post, folks. I thought that it needed explanation! Last edited by Dayvan Cowboy; 09-16-2010 at 07:20 PM. |

Eh, they all seem to just drone on and on to me.
I don't want to debate over this, as I've not listened to any of these bands in several years and frankly I don't really care to re-evaluate that opinion. |

Sure, you don't have to re-evaluate that you dislike them; that's your opinion and you're entitled to it, but the reasoning can't be that they sound the same. That's just not true. EitS is essentially a pop post-rock band. Mogwai are the climax whores. GY!BE are the <wildcard!!!>.
