What do you mean I am "dancing around semantics to make points". What do you mean by that? Frank Ocean and The Weeknd do not make R&B music. There music is very eclectic and it is alternative Quote:

I just think it is interesting and quite sad that in today's industry African Americans can not cross-over making R&B when they are the original pioneers of the genre. Black R&B singers can not appeal to the masses (whites) making R&B. (While I have always liked Robin Thicke) It is interesting to me that Robin Thicke can have a smash hit Blurred Lines while other African American R&B artists (who make similar music) wouldn't stand a chance. The song sounds like Marvin Gaye's "Gotta Give It Up" which was also a very popular R&B/Dance song for its time and it is part of the reason why the song is popular. I just think its interesting how when a white singer does R&B/Blues/Jazz etc it is always presented as something innovative or creative when it is music African Americans have been doing since the beginning of time. I know when Justin Timberlake's album came out, the media was comparing him to Sammy Davis Jr, Marvin Gaye etc. Why? I don't know... Artists like Anthony Hamilton, Eric Benet, Maxwell, Rashaan Patterson etc been making the same type of music way before JT went solo and do it much better lol When their albums come out the media does not compare them to Marvin Gaye and there music is not being called "innovative". They do not get a pat on the back for making R&B music like the white singers do. The industry wants white people making R&B records and black artists to make the POP/Dance songs which is why it is set up like that. Race is not the ONLY factor for the declining popularity of the gene but it most definitely is a factor. |

I think the artist Solar Fields is incredibly underrated. He did the score for the game Mirror's Edge and it was amazing. I was even more impressed by the fact that all his sounds are analog. The creativity level is just as impressive as his time management to be able to put all that together and structure it the way he has. He should be up there with aphex twin and flying lotus. he's been around longer than both of them if not just as long as aphex back in the early 90's.

Really? Ever since like In Absentia they've been the most popular modern progressive band on earth as far as I can tell. I'm not really sure why you think this.

Neil Peart is a great drummer, but I find him (and Rush) to be very overrated. I like them quite a bit but I wouldn't put them on a pedestal like others do.
