Boomtown Rats are overrated? By who? I don't think most people even know who they are, let alone rate them particularly highly.

Well I don't know what goes on in Philadelphia and all, but the Boom Town Rats (Bob Geldof's band) for some unknown reason are world famous.

Strange eh?

I know they're Bob Geldof's band, thanks. But world famous? Not so much. In most of the world, if they're remembered at all, they're remembered as basically a one hit wonder.

Overrated:
Bruce
Black Sabbath
The Clash
The Sex Pistols
Pink Floyd

Underrated:

The Move
Procol Harum
The Hollies

And other obscure sixties bands nobody seems to know or care about.

Also maybe The Buzzcocks since they were clearly better than Clash or Pistols and at least as good as The Jam

A band that is really underrated is Blue Öyster Cult. The three LPs from their "black and white" period rule!

I just take that they are under-rated now. I don't think Procol Harum were under-rated, well not at least by critics or fans of their time and for some time afterwards. The band has received recognition for at least their single. I couldn't find the reference to a particular award they won in the late 70s or early 80s, but according to wiki Procol Harum won best song in the last 75 years (tie with Bohemian Rhapsody) in 1977 for Whiter Shade of Pale A Whiter Shade of Pale - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Maybe they are not so popular with music listeners now. Same with the Hollies, they have at least 29 entries on the Top 40 according to everyhit.com.

Precisely. Thats why they are over-rated, despite having played at virtually every stadium in the US. Who are you? An expert on music or just someone who likes to argue with Brits?
