Well it's not so much that they are good or bad, it's just...it makes more sense if you can follow them. Animals is a concept album based on Animal Farm if that helps. If you've seen that movie or read the book, you'll understand the album much better. It's a beautiful album in it's own right.

Okay now I see what you mean. I often have that problem. I know what all the words mean but I still cannot figure out what the lyrics are saying. I should read more English books, cos I guess that could help.

U2 might be well known to the average music listener but I don't really know if they'd qualify as overrated simply because I don't them being revered by that many people or music critiques. Are they well known? Yes. Are they semi well played? Yes. Are they chart toppers? Yes. All of those still don't qualify for being overrated unless you want to argue that the likes of many pop artists as overrated.

Something is overrated when it's treated like it was made by The God and it does not deserve it. The funny thing is that everybody appreciates different things so these things are highly subjective

Plus, DSotM and WYWH are so centered around Syd and his crippling mental illness, and rightly so, that Animals breaks from that and is the one truly ANGRY Floyd album. Having said that, WYWH is my personal fave Floyd. And I feel exactly the same way as you about The Wall. It did make a great movie tho... |

It's more than just popularity. If someone is calling out a band for being over-rated it's because he/she is going against the opinion many people take that an artist/band popularity equals their greatness, & vice a versa. I love U2 but imo I feel the material they've in the beginning when they were virtually unknown was better than what was when they were an arena concert band. So I agree with some of what Paul has said, but still it doesn't make a difference for me. They still one of my favorite bands.

Most over-rated
Music needs quality vocal and quality musicianship.
With this in mind, how confusing that most lists of over-rated bands/artistes would include the same as mine: Bob Dylan. Leonard Cohen. U2. Boom Town Rats. Kiss. Any winner of the X Factor. Coldplay. |
