Underrated? The Rheostatics -- especially Martin Tielli's offerings. Loved those guys...

I know what you mean. It has been 42 years since the Beatles has been non-existent but yet the Beatles has never lost its popularity. In fact, it may be on a major growth.

I highlighted the bands I like. I had a real negative opinion of Nirvana but I changed my mind when I saw an early concert of them.I didn't think Chris Novoselic was as strong as other Punk bass players and the drummer seem like a regular Rock drummer - tbh. What changed my mind was Kurt's guitar playing he did a lot of stuff I didn't except to do and was all over the place.

Are Kiss really over-rated?
I don't really see how a band who have been hated in the press and the media for their entire existence really qualifies as being over-rated. I can't ever recall a time when I've ever opened up a magazine or music paper and thought 'God they're not talking about them AGAIN' Hell even most fans of the band I know usually start a sentence about the band by saying 'I love Kiss .........but'. Even their own thread on this forum asks if they should retire.

I don't know if Franco is agreeing or disagreeing with you, if he is agreeing with you that is the most up-beat criticism I ever read.

I think the odd thing with Kiss is that people who like them are generally more in love with their image (whether they realize it or not) and what they represent in pop culture than they are their music, which is pretty bland if you ask me. But then again, I haven't really been witness to too many "Gene Simmons is the best bass player ever" arguments. I've never contested the assertion that Destroyer was the best album ever, because I've never heard anyone try to make that argument, So, is their music overrated? I've yet to heart anyone carry about how great their music is, so I'd have to say no. Are they/were they overmarketed? Severely. |

I wouldn't really say Kiss are underrated. Still think their music is crap. Critically I don't think they are overrated. Popularity wise, yes.
I don't know how anyone can say Pearl Jam are underrated.
