His contributions are mostly probably appreciated in the realm of artists his worked with or other guitar players.
Getting a Grammy for a musical artist is not like getting an Oscar for a film actor. For the simple reason, the film industry understands its industry better than the music industry ever could. Lots of acclaimed artists never win Grammys, it means nothing.

That's because there's never been a JACK WHITE song been released as a solo record before that. Which is what I have been trying to point out throughout this thread to you.

So gushing reviews by magazines & websites don't count and only grammys do?

Ive never seen any other magazines or websites acknowledge Jack Whites talents besides the one poster pointed out.

I was just using the grammys as an example of how the industry itself acknowledges artists but of course that is done in many other ways.

Then you've been living under a rock for the past 12 years.
I can remember them being the most hyped act around in 2000, and that was before they even got a major record label deal. After that it seemed to grow & grow every year.

That you don't seem to be too aware of.

Good grief. She's won multiple Grammies, her albums get positive reviews from mainstream and non-mainstream critics alike. I'm afraid you're just going to have to deal with the fact that she's highly acclaimed.

She's sold millions of albums, that means she's popular. Who cares if she's sold more or less albums than Rihanna.

That you don't seem to be too aware of.

But are they that NOW??? I never denied that. There are going to be alot of acts that are going to have their time of popularity and then that dies down. I have not a clue why you keep bringing up his band when I am just talking about his talents INDIVIDUALLY and currently..

Judie Tzuke and The Alan Parsons Project.

Judie has been around since 1979, has twelve albums to her credit, and yet is only known, if at all, for that bloody song ("Stay with me till dawn") ---- google her and see how many results with that name you get! Here are the few YouTubes I've been able to dig up on her. I've purposely avoided SWMTD as it's way too well known.

As for the APP, well most people may know "Eye in the sky", certainly from its instrumental intro, "Sirius", that features in some sports, maybe "Old and wise", but in a mainstream sense that's it. And they've been around since the seventies too. Not quite still going, as they're now under Parsons' own name and seen as a solo outfit, but it seems to be basically the same lineup.

Here's what Spin has to say about him:

Quote:
It's kind of amazing to think that White was ever lumped in with anything as ephemeral as the millennial return-of-rock phylum: He's 36 going on 66, the only artist of his generation who can pal around with Dylan and Jagger while still sounding eight steps ahead of artists a decade his junior, and the only one we can say with confidence will have a career with the length and breadth and stature and mythology of his revered elders.
So now you've seen more than one magazine or website acknowledging his talents. If you spend about 30 seconds on google I'm sure you can find boatloads more.

She IS NOT a mainstream artist. She is a neo/soul slash R&B artist

And she hasnt won alot of awards ... Jill Scott only has 3 grammys. She doesnt even get any awards or acknowledgement from the BET awards.

You implied she was massively popular... and yes there is a difference which is why I compared her to Rihanna who is a POP star.

Yes a band where there are only 2 members and the other member hardly ever does interviews and does her best to shun the limelight where he would regularly talk about other things he was doing and generate press interest.
I remember when he did that album with Loretta Lynn, you really think that album would have generated the interest it did with the popular press without his involvement. And you pick up any music magazine in 2001 and all you'll read about is how Jack White got bands like The Von Bondies, Electric Six, The Detroit Cobras, The Soledad Brothers got record deals primarily because of their connection with Jack White.

And if you are talking about currently then my first point was valid, he's only been a solo artist a few months.
