I expect Pete to come in here next saying how under appreciated Sixpence None the Richer were.

I knew people would bring up Ace of Base. What a superficial comparison - Roxette always was far superior. Keep in mind that we're talking about pure pop, not high art. Yes, some of Roxette's upbeat hits had silly lyrics. However, the band made two of the best pop ballads of the past 25 years ("Listen to Your Heart" and "It Must Have Been Love"). In terms of instrumentation, the band's songs are very good, and even today Marie still sings with power and an unusual amount of feeling.
Also, yes, now that it's been brought to my attention, the new song is good and better than I expected, though it treads the usual Roxette ground for ballads. Last edited by sopsych; 09-06-2012 at 11:16 AM. |
