I have to agree. U2 aren't a bad band, they have their own way of playing. But their godly status is eh. I saw them play in concert at the olympic stadium and I've never seen so many people there than any other concert. It was like they were promoting their godly status, especially with on top of the world antics.

As for Springsteen. *barfs again* Completely overrated. I don't hear mostly anything special about his music.

Couldn't disagree with you more! However, I've already had a fight about Springsteen with wisdom, so I won't be drawn into another one...

Depends on what you're looking for. As you'll see from part two of my "Stranger in a strange land" series in my journal, I thought their first two albums were terrible, kind of warmed to the last two. When they broke away from the samey "we're so tough/sleep with us" pop sound and tried to develop their own, they began to write some decent music. Admittedly, I didn't listen to all their catalogue (not THAT much of a masochist!), so the ones I did review, in case you didn't/don't want to read the feature, were the debut, then "Backstreet's back" (which was, it seems, their actual debut in the US...) then "Millennium", which I found a big improvement and finally "Unbreakable", which I almost liked.

Perhaps telling that the album I, well, liked most is too strong a term, let's say hated least, had no writing from Martin at all, though he did write or co-write many of their bigger hits. Of the boybands I've reviewed so far, the ones to impress me most have been, surprisingly, Take That, especially with their last two albums. Weird, huh?

both are overrated only in terms of sales, and people buying their albums

critically, i think they're both rated just about right, except from Rolling Stone magazine

The band benefited greately from the backing vocals.
I agree the songs start to sound the same and Tony Lewis' voice can sound shrill...but not as shrill, I feel, as the voice of Geddy Lee from Rush, whose high-pitched screaming sometimes just makes me want it to STOP.

This is interesting, though, that you and I agree The Outfield are underrated but maybe we like entirely different songs from them.

I was listening (to the beginnings ) of their songs from Voices of Babylon to remind myself about them today. The adjectives that kept popping into my mind to describe their music were: consistent (sound) and solid (musicianship). Also, I noticed that I like many of the songs (or don't dislike them), but I don't love any of them. :/ I feel a little bad about that, because I can tell they put so much effort into the songs. I think their songs would have benefited from a little more quirkiness and spontaneity.

Good analogy between Tony Lewis and Geddy Lee (also both bassists and little guys). I suppose "For You" is The Outfield song that most resonates with me and brings back memories, even though the lyrics are simplistic.

Yes, Pantera is overrated.

If Halley Williams and Jared Leto didn't scream so much their music would sound much better overall. I like the music but can't stand the screaming, it sounds like their voice goes flat, like they don't hit an actual note but just come to a plain loud scream, mabye if they soften it a bit with effects like echo or fade away or pull the mic away a bit it wouldn't be so shrill. Howlin' Pelle Almqvist from The Hives is another one, they're a band with great music and musicians but a singer I can't handle for too long.

Musically speaking I don't think 30StM, Paramore or The Hives are over-rated - maybe poorly produced.

Underrated: Roxette.

The band did pop very well in the last 80's and probably up until the mid-90's (though there was very little new stuff on American airwaves after about 1993). The music stands up, despite being overproduced. The band is currently on a major tour, FYI.
