I wouldn't go so far as to say that grunge wasn't "melodic", but it definitely wasn't happy stuff.

Haha, sorry. But Suade and Pulp, I just never got it. then again, it's been a while since I've listened and my music has changed somewhat, maybe a re listen is in order, although I don't think I'll ever like Pulp. That album with Common People on. Urgh.

I'm not really gonna argue for or against Grunge or Britpop in a way... both were solid movements in the 1990's with some good music. Obviously I think Nirvana and Oasis were the best things to come out of the respective movements (and I think most people would agree), but those are both their own autonomous acts and musical sounds.
Meh nothing else more to say.
