Yeah, half of it was ballads, and half of it was funk. I think thats what it made it work so well, IMO is the last above average album they did. Because after that they pretty much abandoned the funk completely, I guess because they realised that ballads simply sell more records. I also think they lost one of the more endearing elements of their music, which was their touch of lowbrow but good natured humor.

I mean, these guys used to do shows wearing nothing but socks on their d*cks. How do they go from that to doing a whole double album of ballads? It seems a bit contrived to me, their new songs are pretty weak, they really lost the plot.

I guess. I just prefer the funk over the balladry, but thats just me.

Though Scar Tissue is one of my favorite songs from them.

As further proof of Rolling Stones irrevelance they rated Stadium Arcadium as their best album . Actually Californication is more funk than BSSM which was more rap-rock. Most of it is funk, just a little more melodic than their earlier work.

Finally, a signature that's chewy not chalky!

Let's agree to disagree.

I prefer the fusions like Quixoticelixer, which is probably my favorite Chili Peppers song.

BSSM rap rock?

Just because there are vocals that are vaguely similar to what you would call "rapping", rap rock it is not.

Back on topic:

"and I, I believe that you have died within me"
...I fade from myself
I miss you again
I fade from myself
I miss you again...again
(what have we got?)
bloody broken and hidden away
I seek the rope from which we will hang
or so it seems
or so it seems
the dance of flesh on flesh has rendered us blind
