I know your opinion on Dylan is one that is widely shared by folk fans, however Dylan transcended folk and wrote amazing rock songs as well which is an almost unanimous contention among popular opinion in the music world. Pete Seeger and Arlo Guthrie while perhaps expressing their music more articulately and skillfully did so on a much smaller level and therefore rarely garner the type of attention that would put them on similar lists.

I resent your contention that the list is cliche and would be delighted to argue it point by point on occasion if the thread keeps your interest.
im pretty sure he was talkin woody guthrie there.
also, i like your token rap artist added in down there.

There are plenty of folk to rock crossovers, everyone tends to overhype Dylans rock stuff too. Some of it was good, but he released a plethora of mediocre folk rock albums which no one seems to want to point out and I was talking about Woody Guthrie, you know the guy who is considered one of the most important folk artists ever and is often placed on top of best folk artists lists.

Its not cliche? You could find similar lists everywhere.

So fame means its deserving to be placed above more important artists? Going by this I suppose Britney Spears is more important than Sonic Youth, right?

any band that writes about lord of the rings is not worthy of a number one position on an all time best list.

RE: The Ramones

They have one song. All of them. They all sound the same. Green Day is the largest act of the last decade.

Opinions are what they are, don't scold me for following popular opinion by selecting bands you consider cliche among the best ever and then scold again when I go outside the box and put Green Day so high on the list in favor of the Ramones who I personal enjoy but feel are very overrated. I would rather debate the topics then have you act condescendingly hypocritical. I know what I typed, just respond to it if your wish to, don't interview yourself please.

Sorry about the Arlo\Woody Guthrie thing that was lame. At least i didn't say Bob Segar though right? And I agree folk music is under represented, but at this time I am not in my mind qualified to properly select representatives. That's why I am putting it out there for public scrutiny and improvement.

Zeppelin will not be moving. No one even close in my mind and Ramble On is among the most brilliant songs of all-time despite it's Tolkenesque lyrics.

Yeah sorry, I thought this was going to be an actual attempt at a best 50, and I realize thats all subjective but usually a good try can be pulled. I didn't know it was a popularity contest, in which case i'm sure you can find a useful site probably billboard.com or whatever for better advice then any of us could give you.

Also, Garth Brooks sucks, and thats not opinion its fact. I don't understand how you can place him on there and excluding Johnny Cash, none of the other highwaymen. Theres better country artists then them, but they're all very well known so ignorance shouldn't be an excuse there. Plus theres better country/rock hybrids then Brooks, Wilco for instance.

Agreed MHDTV

here is my opinion.

jack johnson, although i enjoy his music, does not belong anywhere in a top 100 list. 311 is perfectly placed, they are really good, but not top 25 material by any means. pearl jam deserves a higher placement, directly next to nirvana. get elvis presley off and johnny cash in his place. wtf is soad doing on there... not only do they suck, but look at the bands you listed them higher than. that is equivalent to two of the 7 deadly sins. and green day? maybe like 49 because dookie was so good. i havnt liked anything they have done in like 10+ years. honestly i think maybe dmb coulda gotten a little love, the guy has had multiple quality albums, is surrounded by talented musicians, and released new sounds many times throughout his career. plus if your gonna throw a rapper in there throw up something tight like wu tang clan.

oh yea... i agree with the beatles in a top 3, but rolling stones a top 25, and led zepplin maybe a top 50.

Crowquill you suck.

You are a bummer and a half man.

Just because you like inferior music does not mean everyone else is just following the crowd. If you'd have seen The Who and Zeppelin and Hendrix and the like you might have a better understanding for why they are revered as they are. Either way you just seem like an angry dude and we can't hang out I bet.
