The Frances 10 All-Time.
These are not my top 10 faves, but my top 10 artists who: 1: Put out a lot more good stuff than bad stuff. 2: Opened my mind in some way. 3: At a time threatened Bowie for the top spot on my list. Now, Bowie's number 1 but I'm not sure on the others. David Bowie - The absolute greatest, easily on the worlds top 10 list. Tom Waits - A complete legend, has influenced 50 bands you like, even if you don't know it. The Beatles - On every top 10 list. cliche? maybe. deserved spot? yep. Miles Davis - Jazz great, not sure if he even has a bad song. Tori Amos - Sexy woman, Beautiful voice, powerful songs, amazing live. The Doors - Another apparent cliche, yet half the people I know went through a Doors phase. Radiohead - They move me, I've been hooked on every album. The Mars Volta - The newest on the list, not sure if they deserve it but I've never heard anything quite like them and they make me crazy. (the good kind) Eric Clapton (Bands Included) - Has been in so many really good things that I had to put him on my list. Pearl Jam - (up until the last couple of years) One of the most sturdy, reliable rock acts for the last 15 years. Of course I don't think this an all-time list for everybody and I wouldn't attempt to make one. Having said that, I think Bowie and The Beatles would have a damn good chance of making it on there though.

But they will not stand the test of time, Zeppelin has. The Master P's and Limp Biskets and Brittney Spears fads come and go, but eventually we realize they are awful and thats how they're remembered. Popular opinion is shallow in meaning for the present but in the long term it has enormous significance, for it is the prelude to how history is written.
