Any music industry books I should read?
Hi. Does anyone know any good music industry books? Specifically, I'm looking for books that deal with the following:
1. The solo musician using the computer (NO bands, singers, studio stuff) 2. Covers aspects of getting music into TV, movies, or video games 3. Good networking tips 4. Covers the dark side of the music industry; pitfalls to watch out for The book doesn't have to cover all 4, but at least one of the topics. If you know a title, could you let me know what numbers it covers? Thanks. |
Why follow what everyone else has done. Do your own thing and learn along the way. It's like asking for a manual on bringing up children-there is'nt a good one. You just have to try and do the best you can.

Hi jackhammer.
Hasn't there been a time in your life where you went through some bad experiences, learned from it, and then thought "I wish someone would have told me that."? My question is in fact looking for tips on what to reach out for, and what to avoid. Why "Do your own thing and learn along the way", when you can learn from someone else whose "been there and done that"? Besides, if you're completely new to the scene, your way could end up costing you lots of money, your career, valuable time, etc? So, any good books out there I should read before taking the plunge? |
go look at barnes and nobles.. ive seen books like 'the essential guide to managing your own band' kinda ****

its good to get advice in the music industry... but getting it from a book means that will probably be out of date, and probably wont be entirely applicable to your situation. Talk to people on the internet and you'll get far more information from people who arent ever going to write a book about it.. even people like me can probably discuss the last three points, and any solo musician working in that way could help you with the first.

Thanks for the info everyone.

Sorry Brian-I was just being my usual, cold cynical self. Best of luck to you.
