Live Earth

Is anyone watching Live Earth? Someone out there has to be LOL I only caught the last 2 hours of it,but i was dreadfully disappointed by the Smashing Pumpkins' performance, anyone else? They looked like they were all on sedatives! I think the rest of the band quit cuz they were falling asleep being in that band with Billy! Roger Waters is on now,and i guess he's as good as can be expected from a man his age. He never could sing that well but at least he's doing songs people KNOW unlike SP who only did one that i recognized and i thought i was a big fan LOL Any other opinions so far?

When you organise a rock festival & Spinal Tap are the best act on there by miles you have problems.

Rockchick 07-07-2007 09:22 PM

Spinal Tap played?! I didnt know that! omg i bet that was kick ass!

Urban Hat€monger ? 07-07-2007 09:37 PM

They played the London show

boo boo 07-07-2007 10:00 PM

Genesis, RHCP, Beastie Boys, Foo Fighters, The Police, Roger Waters, Smashing Pumpkins.

Those are the only ones I would have cared to see. And Spinal Tap of course.

There was way too much crap to put up with. Bon Jovi, Fall Out Boy, Akon, Taking Back Sunday, Pussycat Dolls, Metallica (15 years ago and it would be a different story), Linkin Park, Ludacris, Black Eyed Peas, Jack Johnson, Xzibit, Lenny Kravitz. Who ever booked those should be banned from ever booking again.

Hillarious that the Antarctica concert only had one band, and only 17 people attended.

I mean, who in the f*ck among these organisers thought it was a good idea to have a concert in Antarctica?

Urban Hat€monger ? 07-07-2007 10:16 PM

I think the only reason Metallica were there was because the organisers were using their stage for their own gig at Wembley tonight.

boo boo 07-07-2007 10:20 PM

Seriously that will piss off their fans (whats left of them) even more. Caring about the Earth? Thats soooo not metal.

joyboyo53 07-07-2007 10:32 PM

i was watching some of it, but none of the acts i wanted to see were on when i was watching. :( i saw part of a performance by black eyed peas... if thats what you can call hop-ing around sucking ass.

i have never been a fan of music being played in giant stadiums anyways.

boo boo 07-07-2007 10:33 PM

Even out of the artists I like. Genesis and The Police are the only ones I would downright kill to see. Because they will only be playing stuff from their back catelog, rather than promoting a new album that probably wont be good.

RHCP are one of my favorite bands, but they would just be playing stuff from Stadium Arcadium, no thanks. I still can't say anything about the new SP lineup, I don't know what to think of them yet.

joyboyo53 07-07-2007 10:48 PM

there should be some kinda rule where you cant keep a band name unless you only change one band member every year or less..

boo boo 07-07-2007 11:02 PM

Corgan not getting Iha for the new album was a big (my username).

Rockchick 07-07-2007 11:13 PM

Aww i love Fall Out Boy but i didnt catch them. At least somebody was there to represent new rock. Seems like these festivals focus too much on hip hop and classic rock.

boo boo 07-07-2007 11:19 PM

Classic rock? How? The only classic rock names there were Genesis, The Police and Roger Waters.

Unless you count Wolfmother as classic rock. And Spinal Tap.

Rockchick 07-07-2007 11:27 PM

Well maybe i didnt see the whole list apparently but i didnt know Wolfmother played. But thats still only 2 new rock bands compared to 3 classic rock bands,4 if you count Spinal Tap.

boo boo 07-07-2007 11:44 PM

What about Keane, Taking Back Sunday, Bloc Party, all of those fellas?

Rockchick 07-07-2007 11:52 PM

Taking Back Sunday played?! How can i be missing all these bands!? Every time i turn it on its the same ones i already saw :-l And Bloc Party aren't rock are they?

boo boo 07-07-2007 11:54 PM

Nope not rock, Indie.

Puh-puh-ching.

CAPTAIN CAVEMAN 07-08-2007 12:42 AM

boring.

sleepy jack 07-08-2007 12:47 AM

I wonder how good for the environment pulling all this off is...

I also find it funny that some of these band have parental advisory stickers on their CDs which was brought about by Gores wife. I also wonder how much cash hes getting for doing all this.

Piss Me Off 07-08-2007 06:36 AM

Foo Fighters stole the show at Wembley, i'm not a massive fan of them but Grohl really knows how to put on a show.

You're trying to classify which bands are "classic rock", so you're not allowed to do genres anymore.

Jonz 07-08-2007 09:55 AM

London was good. The rest sucked.

coffeeshop 07-08-2007 01:02 PM

Madonna and Gogol Bordello
Beastie Boys
Foo Fighters

That was just the pick of the entertainment in London!

Gogol Bordello were amazing. Highlight of the night.
I'd never heard of them before. Someone told me they were like a gypsy/punk type outfit...

Rockchick 07-08-2007 08:12 PM

Ok i know how i missed all these bands, apparently the only one i saw was the New York one. They kept showing like 30 seconds of other countries but not enough I guess. I had no idea Madonna played or any of these other people you guys are mentioning!

Its not a genre, and I never said it was. But its a ridiculously simple classification to use.

Getting played a lot on classic rock radio = classic rock.

So anyone from Journey to Cheap Trick to Pearl Jam can be considered classic rock.

Foo Fighters put on a great show, I missed the others you mentioned.

I bet you could fill up a state with the amount of Gas used up between the huge trucks and private jet on Metallicas last tour.

pheurton 07-10-2007 05:58 AM

Foo Fighters were the only decent thing I caught.

Ok so when I last saw metallica they played 5 songs from the post-black album era. What would be different about 15 years ago given your response to the RHCP issue.

You're right, why do it at all. Lets not do a damn thing to get the masses aware. We can all still hand out annoying and ineffective pamphlets on the side of the street.

If there is a problem with it, propose your alternative.

CAPTAIN CAVEMAN 07-10-2007 02:07 PM

The masses are aware. Everyone and their grandma has heard about global warming, people just don't care.

sleepy jack 07-10-2007 03:00 PM

Yeah I really don't think this did much to raise global warning awareness since most people are already aware and if you aren't you're probably isolated from society. I just find this whole thing extremely hypocritical and self-serving.
