the best music database eva!
a lot of you may already know about this website, but for those of you who dont pay close attention.
allmusic this is the ultimate database for all your musical needs. everything from biography to discography, cd ratings, multiple genre listings (with description of each genre), similar artist, influencing artist, following artist, band members. now all of these have links to click on them which lead you to more information and links. basically its a very large scale database for music on a similar level to wikipedia. although they will not have everyone.. i have noticed they have about 95% or more of the bands i search for. the bigger the band, the more information (obviously). so if you haven't ever been here, please amend this mortal sin. your welcome. |
AMG is good for some data, but it's far from complete and I don't agree with some of the critics' recommendations and comments.
Another good site is Discogs.com It's by no means a substitute for AMG, but it has a lot of info that AMG doesn't. |

Best music site for info, by far. |
Its not perfect. The genre classifications and list of influences have been known to be invalid from time to time.

It's great for getting into genres, but it's by no means comprehensive. Not that I have any right to saying anything bad about allmusic, since when I got into punk and post-punk it introduced me to more or less all my favorite bands, and I would be a hollow shell of a person without it.

I use it to find out a bit more about an artist.
Bit crap when it comes to more recent artists though, it always seems to be a bit late. |
