Need help with themed compilation...

Hey there... new guy here (1st post). I'm putting together a compilation of songs where a dog barks at some point, either on purpose as part of the song or on accident and left in the recording. If anything comes to mind when you read this please post it!

Here is a list of what i'm using so far:
  • Beastie Boys - Sure Shot
  • Beatles - Hey Bulldog
  • David Grisman - Dawg After Dark
  • Jane's Addiction - Been Caught Stealing
  • Jason Mraz - Curbside Prophet
  • Keller Williams & Bob Wier - Cadillac
  • Pink Floyd - Seamus
  • Sublime - Doin' Time

I'm not looking for any novelty type songs done with dog sounds... just some good tunes where a dog made the final cut.

Oh, also... does anyone have an original version of the Commodores "Machine Gun" album? The 'Trivia' section on the wiki for the Machine Gun album says "On the track 'Machine Gun', there seems to be a dog barking intermittently throughout." I don't own that album but I have been able to download the song from both the remastered 'Machine Gun' cd and the 'Boogie Nights' soundtrack and i don't hear any barking. I'm wondering if they took that out during the remastering process?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

-Jack

Try "Who Let the Dogs Out," though I don't know who does it. That song used to be on all the time when I was a kid.

Pearl Jam - Rival. It has a really mean growl and bark at the start.

Hmmm... This sounds kinda "ruff"!

Sorry...

You could use "Augmn" by Can. It's on their Tago Mago album. In the middle of the track, straight out of nowhere, a dog starts barking.

Someone might have mentioned it, but "Dogs" from Pink Floyd's Animals album.

Jack.Straw 06-29-2007 06:09 AM

Ya, i should mention that a few of the artists i have songs by (sublime, keller, grisman, and floyd) have multiple songs with dogs. I don't want to duplicate artists on the compilation though...

I chose Seamus over Dogs in the Floyd department :)

I'd just thought with the creepy effects of "Dogs" you'd get more bite for your money.

;)

Well since you seem to like the puns, why don't you help come up with a punny name for the CD. We do one of these every year and give them out at our christmas party.

The last two years were:

Cow In The Bell Are Ya (this holiday season)
(songs w/ cowbell)

A Holiday Panundrum
(steel drum songs... not songs re-done on the steel pan, but songs by popular artists that feature the odd steel pan)

Happy Howlidays?

Jack.Straw 06-29-2007 06:52 AM

rofl... nice, that's going on this list of possibilities! :)

Pilzkopf 06-29-2007 07:01 AM

If I think of any others, I'll refur them to you. Just don't flea when you read them.

Fangs alot for putting my suggestion on your short list!

"Pink Eye" by Ween has some lovely fake dog barks made by a keyboard. It's stuff like this that makes me love Ween.

The Smiths "Barbarism Begins At Home", except I think its Morrissey barking but still.

Morrissey barking sounds like something that would make me try to perform brain surgery on myself with a power drill. Actually, that could be Morrissey's voice in general that does that. Now that I've got that out of my system, people can start flaming me for hating Morrissey.

Jack.Straw 07-07-2007 02:09 PM

I just picked up both, thanks!

Heh, sorry, theres barking in the music video just assumed it'd still be there in the recording, seems it isn't.
