I started with only basic rock bands that everyone knew, like ACDC, Gun and Roses...etc. Then as time went on and i got more into music i started listening to heavier stuff in the metal and Hard rock genre's. I think over time though i have calmed down and listen to more alternative rock, funk, and psychedelic rock, such as Incubus, P. Floyd, John Frusciante. Also lately i have been getting big into Trance and Goa music such as 1200 Micrograms, Paul okenfeld, Tiesto and people like that. All in all though i still like music from all across the board.

Piss Me Off

I started by being obsessed with watching TOTP every friday when i was about 9 or 10. I didn't feel the need to buy anything, i was happy just watching music videos. I adored Shania Twain

I think i was 12 when i bought my first album, RHCP - Californication. This led to the Chili's being the first band i started obsessing over, it would be another 3 years till i would see them live, with James Brown supporting, in a giant field. Other bands i loved were Nirvana, Muse, and The White Stripes. Still love them.

Then i discovered NME and i confess i did become the type to listen to any old crap they recommended. The Libertines became my favourite band, i loved the relationship between Doherty and Barat and the idea throughout theur fanbase that they were something really special. Looking back, while i think the NME is embarassing now, it benefitted me a lot as far as music, i would look up the bands that were cited as influences and listen to them. My friends didn't like them generally, but albums like Daydream Nation and Surfer Rosa became firm favourites with me.

And then i discovered The Smiths when i was 15. The Queen Is Dead didn't hit home straight away, but i was curious and i wanted to hear more from Morrissey, this singer and character which was like no other. I remember the moment i fell in love, staying up all night in bed at my aunts and listening to all their albums back to back. It was a body of work like no other, i must have cried several times, and i had found a band i could call my own.

Then John Peel died. I had only listened to his show once, and had been massively confused by it, lots of loud punk, i remember. I ended up listening to all the bands that meant lots to him, and found favourites in PJ Harvey, Gang Of Four, Buzz****s, The Cure and many others...

I think since then my curiosity in all forms of music has grown and grown. I adore many bands that would be classed as Metal, Rap, Hardcore Punk, Reggae, Dance, Hip-Hop and Electro. I'm always finding something thats fresh to me (lately, Melt Banana) and hopefully this won't stop.

Around the ages of...10-12 or so, I was mostly listening to nu-metal kind of shit (Kid Rock, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, Slipknot, etc.), then one night, I saw my dad's Ozzy Osbourne Live At Budokan DVD, and I became obsessed with Ozzy/Black Sabbath. That lead into thrash metal and whatnot (Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, etc.), around when I was 14-15. Then, with the aid of some excessive pot smoking, I began to realize that everything I listened to sounded almost identical. I branched out into more diverse metal subgenres (stoner metal, alternative metal), and soon that lead into a bit of an obsession with "grunge". Then, one night, at the age of 16, I took a bunch of mushrooms and listened to this mixtape of psychedelic rock bands (Hendrix, The Beatles, etc.), and my mind's been pretty open ever since, lol. Between that night and this afternoon, I've begun listening to...well, at least a little bit of everything, really. Been heavily into '50s/'60s jazz as of late.

In my early teens I wad a huge fan of bands such as Good Charlotte, Linkin Park, Killradio, Sum 41 and Billy Talent. The pivotal point for me was, I think, when I was introduced to Metric. That was when I "allowed" myself to listen to things that weren't all rock / pop punk, as lame as that sounds. Then came the Unicorns.. and I was instantly enthralled with twee and indie pop and the like. and it was only about a year ago that I got into more folksy things, such as Joanna Newsom, Devendra Banhart etc. Now I'm into artist like Final Fantasy, Animal Collective, Ohbijou (!), Seabear, Beirut and The Acorn. I've become a pretty big CanCon whore too,
I'm not so much into Metric anymore, though, they've lost their appeal for some reason. Maybe I'll re-introduce myself, it's been ages since I've listened to them. I think the only band I still listen to from my earlier "musical stage" is Death From above 1979. They always have, and always will get me in the mood ()

when i was like, 12, i listened to A LOT of green day and papa roach. oh, and eminem, too.

then once i got into middle school, i listened to the all american rejects, yellowcard, blink, and the ataris.

towards the end of my middle school career, i got into sum 41, and good charolotte.

hahah. then, when i was a freshman, there was this boy that i really liked, and he listened to the used, and avenged sevenfold. and so did i. i also really liked HIM, and cky. my freshman year was when was a fucking HARDCORE my chemical romance fan.
soon, after, i was introduced to bright eyes.

and it went on from there.
when i was a sophmore, i listened to like, a really disgusting mix of indie, and shitty "emo," but not real emo.

and last year, i pretty much just listened to bright eyes.
