Sorry I didn't know there was already a thread for this.
And I'm 22. What I meant was that I got into a lot of music around the age of 19 and that continues today. |

I grew up with my parents listening to Jimmy Buffett all the time. My first CD i bought was Garth Brooks - The Hits when i was like 12...I think I still know the words to all those songs sadly.
I listened to my brothers ACDC Back In Black and was blown away. Sadly from there (around '98) I got into Korn, Limp Bizkit, Offspring, Green Day in middle school. When I got to high school I realized everybody that likes those bands are dou chebags. Just a school full of dou chebags loving MTV, so I started to listen to anything weird (frank Zappa, dr. hook) and older music that people claimed to be legendary. Today I like to listen all sorts of stuff, but I avoid trance/techno, country, most rap, ska, emo, hardcore, new R&B, adult contemporary stuff, top of the charts stuff, and most punk. I'm 22 BTW

Don't remember age.
Started out with pop(the ones on MTV) and NU-metal.(absolutely in love with SOAD espicially). Along with various MTV/NU metal stuff, add in Iron maiden and Metallica somewhere in there.(one of the very first metal bands i listened to...not the first though) Then moved onto more 90's rock...Nirvana, AiC, Pearl Jam, sound garden, STP, smashing pumpkins, RHCP, RATM, Blink182 etcetc. Lots of good times ova here.(although i overdid almost every freaking band here espicially RHCP, Nirvana and pearl jam) The rest of the stuff though, just came in one go. Classic rock, jazz, metal with all its sub-genres(a GIGANTIC list here), indie rock, punk and most importantly Progressive Rock/metal(ya...i like prog. metal as much as prog. rock) all came relatively in a short span of time. 19 rite now. I still don't listen to some genres- Rap/Hip-hop: I have actually listened to almost all the so called 'best' rappers(mainly the ones on MTV). Just didn't like the genre all that much. I like the Nas, Immortal technique and Fort minor albums i own though.(just don't listen to it atm...lost interest for now). But thats about it...i have totally-three albums in this entire genre. Country-Yuck no! hate it...don't know when it'll change though. Most of the pop stuff on MTV. Some of the ____core/punk stuff...hate emo and NU metal especially. I started off listening to what my parents did.. alot of The Beatles, Johnny Cash, Simon and Garfunkel, Roy Orbison, Carly Simon and..... Neil Diamond.
The first cd I bought with my own money was Nsync's Tearin Up My Heart. I deff had a boy band phase. And Spice World was my favorite movie for a good part of my childhood. In 6th and 7th I listened to alot of Nirvana and Sonic Youth. 8th I was all about Norma Jean and Alexisonfire. The tail end of my freshman year was when my musical taste started to change into what I like today. Also when I heard Elliott Smith for the first time. It's when I started looking to my brother for guidance.. musicwise. Today I'm more into Alternative Folk, Indie Rock.. ect. I'm alot less biased when it comes to music. I try to listen to alittle bit of everything. |

I grew up listening to the music my parents listened to. From my mom, I got Genesis, Rick Astley (used to be totally in love with him!), a lot of poppy, adult contemporary stuff. From my dad, I got bands like Van Halen, YES, Aerosmith, Steel y Dan, and U2. And from both I got a taste for R&B, blues and other stuff, like B.B. King, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and Manhattan Transfer. Most of the music I was introduced to by my parents (especially the blues) has stuck with me until today.
When I hit 10-11 (1991), I was into the same stuff all the other little girls my age were…New Kids on the Block. As I got a little older, I began to like more dance stuff, like Paula Abdul, Janet Jackson, Prince, and the like. I also started to get into New Order and the Cure a little. It wasn’t until high school that I really started to get into rock a lot more. I was in love with Metallica, Orgy, Prodigy, Type O Negative, and some others I can’t quite think of now. I was always kind of into the more “classic” rock bands like AC/DC and Black Sabbath, but I think I appreciate them a lot more now. My husband’s really into these bands, as well as old Metallica, Iron Maiden, and Megadeth, so it has had some influence. He also got me into Modest Mouse (as odd as that may sound). So, at the ripe old age of 28, I like mostly rock and not-so-heavy metal, but I’m more open to broadening out musically. I’m trying to like these indie bands everyone talks about on here, but it’s really hard for me to get into some of them. Alot of them are too, too slow and mellow for me to listen to long enough without getting distracted. I’m really getting into folk-y music though, and I really like bands with lead singers that have that not-quite-perfect voice, because it makes the music that much more interesting. One type of music that I just cannot listen to is techno music. I mean, I appreciate that any music takes time and effort to make, but can we get a little more repetition here?? It’s just too much. And this Kenny G jazz stuff…can’t do that either.

Early Years: (1-8) - Queen and all sorts of trendy songs, Who Let The Dogs Out, Aaron Carter
Mid Years (8-9) - AC/DC, Zeppelin. Totally hard rocked my self. Pre Teen Stage I (9-10) - Jane's Addiction. Sadly, I got hooked on the crappy 2003 album, Strays. My dad started to introduce me to bands like the Pixies, The Breeders, Soul Coughing, The Clash, but I resisted at first and didn't dig a lot of the stuff. Pre Teen Stage II (10-12) - I really am ashamed about this period of time. Green Day, The Offspring, but at the same time a bit of Zeppelin and the Clash thrown in. EDIT: My dad got me into Tool, and I love them still. Nirvana as well. The Awakening (13-14) - Jane's Addiction, Soul Coughing, Nine Inch Nails, Rush, Porno For Pyros, The Breeders, Primus, Alice In Chains, Deconstruction, The Clash, Cafe Tacuba, all sorts of stuff EDIT: Starting to get into My Bloody Valentine, Sonic Youth Last edited by cabangbangq; 05-20-2008 at 05:57 PM. |

don't remember age
Birth-3rd grade: Radio rock really, never really cared about music. 4th grade: The first time I heard Anarchy in the UK by The Sex Pistols, bought Nevermind the Bollocks but never eally listened to it until later. 5th-6th grade: Pop punk such as Blink 182, Greenday, Sum 41........ect. 7th-Mid 8th grade: The first half of 7the grade I was really into 60's music, like the Doors. Then I got into britsh metal such as Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Led Zepellin. Mid 8th grade: My cousin let my borrow the Clash's first album and that's what got me into punk. I started to listen to all the first wave bands Damned, Pistols, Ramones, Television......ect. 9th- mid 9th: By the very end of 8th i was starting to get into hardcore, like i can remember waiting for my dad to pick me up from school and listening to Nazi Punks Fuck Off by Dead Kennedys. By the 9th grade I was listening to Bad Brains, Black Flag, but at the same time still listening to first wave punk bands like the Sex Pistols. Mid 9th: Started to get into Alternative like Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Sonic Youth......ect. Until I heard the Smiths........ 10th grade: Right now i'm into indie stuff. The Smiths are the band that got me into not only songs that are good lyrically but also musically . Then I heard Elliott Smith and bought an Fender acoustic guitar. Then I heard the Libertines and bought an electric, as of now i'm in love with the Libs sound. Also alot of post punk like Joy Division and Gang of Four. But yeh.......that's it i think.
