Favourite Chill Out Tracks & Albums - lets get 'em down!

Hey guys,

I've been downloading some ministry of sound stuff recently and am loving this chillout type of music more and more!

Aside from these compliations though I'm a newbie to the whole chillout phenomenon and would love everyone's suggestions on what tracks or albums to download!

My fav so far is Avalon by Juliet :thumb:

Try these:

JOSE PADILLA-SOUVENIR (Balearic Chill/Spanish/Electronic)
UNDERWORLD-DUBNOBASSWITHMYHEADMAN (Ambient Techno)
WILLIAM ORBIT-STRANGE CARGO albums (Ambient Electronic)
EVERYTHING BUT THE GIRL-WALKING WOUNDED/TEMPARAMENTAL (Ambient breakbeat/DnB)
CAFE DEL MAR-huge series of chillout compilations-try any as good starters
TANGERINE DREAM-POLAND/UNDERWATER SUNLIGHT etc (Electronic/Rock)
KRUDER and DORFMEISTER-THE K & D SESSIONS (Jazz/Hip/Hop/Indie Remix's)
AFTERLIFE-SIMPLICITY TWO THOUSAND (Balearic Chill)
THIEVERY CORPORATION-THE RICHEST MAN IN BABYLON (Bossa Nova tinged)
PAN AMERICAN-360 BUSINESS 360 BYPASS (Post Rock)
CLANNAD- BANBA (gaelic folk)
ANOICE -REMMINGS (post rock)
THE CINEMATIC ORCHESTRA-MA FLEUR (orchestral/pop)
ZERO7-SIMPLE THINGS (acoustic/jazz)
DEAD CAN DANCE-SPIRITCHASER (WORLD BEATS)
FAITHLESS-NO ROOTS (acoustic/dance)
FILA BRAZILIA-MAIM THAT TUNE (world/jazz)
THE FUTURE SOUND OF LONDON-ACCELERATOR (Beats/breaks)
JOSE GONZALEZ-VENEER (acoustic)
CREAM PRESENTS FUTURE CHILL (dance)
MAD PROFESSOR PRESENTS..any of this series (dub)
NIGHTMARES ON WAX-CARBOOT SOUL (jazz)

That's just a small collection and some of the genre descriptions are open to debate, but for Electronic chillout the place to start is the aforementioned CAFE DEL MAR series of mix's-that's where I started a few years back!

DeFacto is awesome, but i cant really chill to them.

PopIsDead 07-06-2007 09:52 PM

My favourite album to chill out to is definitely Disco Volante by Mr. Bungle.

Actually, no. My favourite chill out album is probably any The White Birch by Codeine or I Could Live In Hope by Low. "Slowcore", as some call it, is great to chill out to.

Pilzkopf 07-09-2007 04:27 PM

I've been chillin' to Harold Budd's The Pavilion of Dreams.

Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music is definitely not a chill album. I've never heard of anybody going to listen to Metal Machine Music to unwind after work or something.

Favourite Chill Out song(s)?

Whats your favourite song for chilling out to? Whether its after a long day at work or on Sunday afternoon when its pissing with rain (happens a lot in Scotland..), post it here.

I have loads but, besides any Jazz, these two are my favourites.

Ricochet~kun 06-29-2009 01:51 PM

anything along these general lines:

i mean... he's just so chilled! it makes me wish i was that layed back

cavanherk 06-29-2009 01:55 PM

I admit my admiration for Jack Johnson when it comes time to chill.

Anything by this folk/rock band called HUMANLAB is great to relax to. Very chill. They remind me of summertime and the beach. All I want to do is cruise down the highway with my windows down. You can check them out at myspace.com/humanlab. If I just want like quiet time and something soothing, there's one radio station that plays some smooth jazz or I'll put on slower/softer songs from my favorite bands, like Keane and such.

Love this song. Good to chill out to, and will put you in a good mood if you're having a bad day.

Bulldog 06-29-2009 05:11 PM

I tend to stick some trip-hop on whenever I'm kicking back. These guys in particular;

Sundays suck. If not for good music they would be unimaginably bad. Sunday is my day for jazz, soft rock, reggae, and stuff of that sort.

Raust 06-29-2009 05:49 PM

This or anything off of Black Sunday. Don't judge me!:finger:

Definitely man, Jazz & Electronica for me on Sundays. I used to go through a period when I listened to Rock and everything else during the day, and Jazz in the evening when it got dark.
