help me find music

this is what I'm looking for:

music that is well produced, with full-on bass, that's chill, and has vocals that preferably aren't too grating. something along the lines of:

tv on the radio
dandy warhols
massive attack
some of moby's better songs
radiohead (along the lines of kid a... everything in it's right place)

basically something really chill that I can turn up all the way and have it not sound like **** and make my room shake. something with lots of textures and layers of sound.

see what you can come up with

Sparky 05-16-2007 06:17 PM

pavement
television
jesus and mary chain
the organ
the ponys
the noisettes
the psychedelic furs
the replacements

bands your already familiar with ftw :D!

swim 05-16-2007 06:31 PM

glossy mathishy stuff like Engine Down, Dakota/Dakota, Volta Do Mar, Battles, Don Caballero, Piglet, Meneguar, Faraquet

Urban Hat€monger ? 05-16-2007 06:40 PM

Ever heard of a band called Pylon? , came from the same time & place as REM & The B52s.
They're female fronted typicaly jangly post punk indie rock.

:D

Kevorkian Logic 05-16-2007 07:23 PM

Gotan Project
Sneaker Pimps
The Brian Jonestone Massacre
Morcheeba
Hum
Boards of Canada
Minus the Bear
Band of Horses (I don't like them that much but they're chill as ****)
Failure

I could go on for a while, but this should be enough to suit your fancy. And I second swim's Faraquet suggestion.

PopIsDead 05-16-2007 07:37 PM

Do Make Say Think
Codeine
Broken Social Scene
The Books
Low
Fuck
Gorky's Zygotic Mynci
Halloween, Alaska
Parker And Lily
Midnight Movies
Pink Mountaintops
Stereolab
Xploding Plastix
Yo La Tengo

And I second Hum, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Minus the Bear, Band of Horses, Volta Do Mar, and Don Caballero.

OK then how about The Auteurs. Steve Albini produced Britpop with added cellos.

cardboard adolescent 05-16-2007 08:04 PM

^ New Wave is really doing it for me right now.

I'd have thought the room might shake if you turned their early stuff up full volume.

Bark Psychosis and Talk Talk might be what you're after. Talk Talk's last album is really chill, has nice vocals, and is one of the best produced albums ever. Bark Psychosis is similar but with more emphasis on bass, but I find their vocalist gets a litte annoying after a while. Good bands, though.

Certain parts of Fugazi's The Argument are perfect for the vibe you're describin' as well. It's so well produced, cool bass as always, and with some really chill moments. Of course there are some shoutier moments too though, so it won't work as a whole album for ya.

The Feelies are pretty great too, but I think you know them. In fact, I'm sure I downloaded their album Crazy Rhythms from you about a year ago or sumthin'. You've probably heard all of these.

Yeah, I was thinking something with a bit more rhythm than Talk Talk or Bark Psychosis though... they're good bands but when I listen to them I just kind of lose the will to do anything, if you know what I mean.

Trauma 05-20-2007 04:39 PM

Jaga Jazzist, The Knife, Morphine, The Most Serene Republic, MSTRKRFT, Ratatat, Susumu Yokota.

I guess I don't really know what you're looking for but whatever.

White Lies 05-20-2007 05:17 PM

Morphine is an excellent call.

Trauma 05-20-2007 05:28 PM

Always.

PopIsDead 05-20-2007 11:35 PM

I love Morphine the band. The drug's okay too.

PopIsDead 05-20-2007 11:41 PM

So earlier I suggested Codeine, and now Morphine has been suggested. Both of these bands being really chill, I figure from this that every band named after an opiate is a chill band. I also know from experience that opiates are generally pretty chill drugs. But what does it all mean? I think I need to gather more information on bands named after opiates. Are there any bands named Opium, Heroin, Thebaine, or Papaverine?

Frances 05-20-2007 11:43 PM

Thom Yorke's - Eraser?

Theres a really sick emo band named Heroin.

PopIsDead 05-20-2007 11:50 PM

Well, I guess not every band named after an opiate is chill.
