I'm not talking about favorites (for the record, if you thought that's what I was pushing). I'm talking about pure music quality vs originality. Any band that pushes a new genre no doubt deserves props but I don't think it automatically makes them better from bands who just expanded on an existing genre. I think it goes case by case and I think that bands that reiterate and bend other's ideas can also be amazing via song structure.

The funnier part about the last sentence is this is a poll of personal preference not 'amazingness', which like most things about music is completely subjective. Black Sabbath doesn't surprise or astounish me at all, nor does Mozart, or Bowie. So why should I consider them amazing?

can we just make a poll between Elliott Smith and Bowie? Because that seems to be who it is between.

I find classical music boring, and if I had to listen to classical. I'd probably get more into the Baroque era.

Yeah, and Why would I dig deeper into his music when I don't care for classical music at all? I don't understand how you can go on about Mozart being 'amazing' then say this. You realize Mozart didn't start off any genres right? He composed and wrote in a bunch and popularized one, but he didn't create any. You sit here and hype him and but he doesn't fit up to your standards of amazing at all. Why don't you namedrop Montverdi or Bach instead? |
