Nirvana made that awful genre GRUNGE popular. We've had to deal with lame ass Pearl Jam rip-offs for years now - vocally and musically.

You actually think Nirvana was a huge influence on Bright Eyes? Bright Eyes sounds more like a cross between Joyner and Johnston with his own stuff thrown in and his stuff that actually got mainstream attention was a country/folk album, a folktronicaish album and Cassadaga which is an alt-country. Not boring seattle garage rock.

You need to word your metaphors better, seriously. And you're just pissed because you came in and tried to burn bright eyes without knowing what you were talking about.

Yeah I agree with this, Pearl Jam has had a horribly strong influence on Modern Rock radio, which isn't their fault, but it is what it is.

No, I'm pissed because a lot of good bands lost to Bright Eyes when fevers (or whatever album had the radio interview) was one of the more pretentious albums ever made. And since when have you know what you're talking about? You can make a connection from Bright Eyes to Sunny Rollins if you want to, and its much easier to Nirvana. I don't think what I said was any more correct or incorrect than what you said.

Edit: And whoa where is the perfunctory "grunge isn't a genre" comment, or do we save that for people we don't like?

I actually love the sad sound of music, though whiny vocals are annoying. I believe music that is happy all the time is pretty annoying because it doesn't connect, with me at least. I mean Doom Metal, my favorite genre, uses a lot of sad and depressing emotions in its music. That may be one of the main reasons I like it better then Death Metal. Nobody is truely 100% happy with their life so music that is always happy has no soul in it.

It's not like Bright Eyes sounds remotely emo and someone halfway educated on it would get it confused so war is slightly harsh. I prefer using blatant terms correctly.

Let me get this straight. You're blaming Nirvana for bands that were influenced by Pearl Jam?

That very sentence is mind numbingly stupid.

No. It's a movement, consisting mainly of hardcore punk influenced bands.

I completely agree, Fevers and Mirrors was a pretentious album, especially the interview. He was making fun of himself and the album, thats some of the most pretentious shit ever!

Bright Eyes shouldn't be this far, I really wanted the last poll to be the White Stripes, Zeppelin, Radiohead, Pink Floyd and The Smiths!
