One Band

If you had to only listen to one band for the rest of your life, what band would that be? Like if you were on a deserted island, with only a cd player, and all of a band's collection (and, yeah, a bunch of batteries)

I would choose Pink Floyd, because, one of the credentials of a band that you won't get sick of, is being able to make you notice little subtleties in their music that you hadn't noticed before. (Much like great movies) I could probably sit around and study Pink Floyd's music for the rest of my life, and constantly be noticing little intricacies that I had missed before, and the music would always remain relevant and interesting and thought provoking.

Opeth by far. Opeth pretty much does what was mentioned above about Floyd (probably not as much though.) Not only that, but their diversity between melodic guitar passages, heavy moments, great progressive drumming (at least when Lopez was in the band,) and vocals that are quite amazing for the genre. Opeth is the only band that I have yet to get tired of listening to.

beyondthismysticalyak 04-15-2007 04:41 PM

Tool. I've never listened to a Tool song that I don't like, and I have listened to all of them. They never get old.

PopIsDead 04-15-2007 04:47 PM

I think I'd be happy enough if I listened to nothing but Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Every time I listen to one of their songs, I noticed something new about it. And their songs are so long! It's great!

sleepy jack 04-15-2007 07:09 PM

The Beatles, they could basically appeal to all my moods.

Kevorkian Logic 04-15-2007 07:46 PM

my dad asks that question all the time. And I find it a stupid way of saying what band do you think is always listenable?

Because honestly you never will be stuck on a desert island where you have the choice of one cd because:
1. All the islands have been bought up
2. Their would need to be electricity to play the cd, meaning it isn't deserted
3. Why would the person abandoning you on a desert island give you only 1 cd? why not 2? Why not the whole collection?

Predator 04-15-2007 08:43 PM

^^ I couldn't decide either, so I just didn't answer.

Frances 04-15-2007 10:19 PM

Bowie! no contest. can you think of another artist that covers as many styles?

So you'd listen to your own bullshit then?

I'd probably get up on I Hate Myself, Death Cab For Cutie, The Smiths, Saetia, Bright Eyes, or Elliott Smith to intensify my depression.

Probably Godspeed You! Black Emperor, if I wanted to amplify the longevity of my dismal and hopeless situation.

Either/Or.

The Dave 04-16-2007 07:32 AM

I'd be getting crunk to some Drive Like Jehu for the rest of my life.

No. The situation has a 0% chance of ever happening. Like honestly. It just cannot happen.

Trauma 04-16-2007 03:13 PM

Yeah, that's what your mom said, whiner.

that doesn't even make sense. And i'm not whining, I'm pointing out the overwhelming fallacies in that question.

Sparky 04-16-2007 03:55 PM

kevokian logic=negative nancy =/

Kevorkian Logic 04-16-2007 03:57 PM

i'm more cynical, which I guess can be seen as negative. This question just has always gotten under my skin.

Laces Out Dan! 04-16-2007 05:26 PM

we all know this would never happen...its a theoreticall question...sorta like asking someone..if you could only listen to one band for the rest of your life..who would it be...its supposed to be fun.

Kevorkian Logic 04-16-2007 05:42 PM

I know, if the question was "if you could only listen to one band for the rest of your life..who would it be?" I would be chill. Just all the frills to the question seem so unnecessary to me. My bf gives me enough of the round about overly, dramatic ****.

A_Perfect_Sonnet 04-16-2007 08:57 PM

You sound like you'd be really annoying to talk to.

Trauma 04-16-2007 08:59 PM

Not annoying, just more cynical.

But not about everything, maybe.

blomby86 04-16-2007 09:00 PM

emery

i would listen to emery for the rest of my life

Trauma 04-16-2007 09:11 PM

Hahahahahahahahahahaha

this_guy 04-17-2007 09:22 AM

for me it would be the clash London calling. Every song is good and there are so many different styles you won't get bored.

MURDER JUNKIE 04-17-2007 10:17 AM

I would listen to the Ramones, I have spent 18 years listening to them and any band that sounds like them so I don't imagine that it would get old just because I was on a desert island

Howazor 04-17-2007 01:54 PM

would have to be the beatles. blink 182's my favourite band of all time, but you cant get bored of the beatles, and they've got a wider variety of moods

I was stressed, so I became cynical, and this was an easy target.
sorry that I offended people by pointing out reality.
This question is just a pet peeve.

holdyoualways 04-26-2007 06:35 PM

thats a tough question
i get annoyed with songs quite quickly
so i guess the band that im least annoyed with would be brand new or afi
eh, i dunno
:/

kheffelf 04-26-2007 08:32 PM

Mason Jennings

TheBig3 04-26-2007 09:08 PM

The White Stripes

jackhammer 05-11-2007 04:00 PM

I completely concur with the original post:PINK FLOYD.
I have always jokingly said to my wife:if I am ever in a coma, play me DOGS from ANIMALS- the guitar hook that is repeated throughout resonates with me so much.

I really hate the fact that Floyd have never truly got the recognition they deserve-I mean they are the worlds best selling group for albums-yet so many people don't even know who they are, let alone know what they look like-they truly are one of the worlds foremost cult bands bar none.

The Unfan 05-11-2007 08:27 PM

I had to think about this for a bit. On one hand you want to pick a band you're really fond of, yet I find a lot of bands I enjoy I only enjoy when I'm in the mood for them. On the other you'd need something that never gets old. My instinct says something that goes by quick enough that you can't get sick of it. So the question I really asked myself is "What bands have albums and songs quick enough that they don't have time to grow old but yet are really intricate and deep as to keep my attention?" and the first answer I came up with was Genghis Tron. Now, I'm not sure if this is what my answer would be given more thought, but for now I'll go with it.

Genghis Tron.

Coldplay

It would help motivate me to get off it.

Yeah.

You excited for Icky Thump, big3?

TheBig3 05-13-2007 12:25 AM

You have no idea how excited I am.

Jack White is saving music for me these days.

Crowe 05-13-2007 12:36 AM

Big3 - take my kindred spirit advice and listen to The Cold War Kids and The Black Keys, and you will find other reasons to continue your musical explorations.

TheBig3 05-13-2007 12:49 AM

I do, sir. I am more impressed by other contemporaries. Black Keys are no comparison and the Cold War Kids have my respect for covering "I don't want to grow up" by Tom Waits. But "hang me out to dry" was poorly produced. You can't have that degree of repetition vocally without any deviation in music unless you want to run the risk (as they did) of dragging the song out forever with no musical redemption.

Zombie_Fetish 05-14-2007 09:08 AM

Sighlo - theyre a local band but theyre the only thing i could listen to without getting bored with it

Kingston11 05-16-2007 12:21 AM

Absolutely the Beatles!!

=ladyface= 10-08-2007 01:51 PM

If I had to choose I'd probably go for Muse. I can't think of a single song of theirs I don't like and there's a song for pretty much every situation. A couple of years ago I would've moaned about the lack of Muse songs to properly dance to but we've got Supermassive Black Hole now so I'd be sorted there.

Yeah, I think they've got enough to keep me occupied.

just for the ironic twist.
