Sorry Your Dad Is *** Playlist

After being traumatized with in an inch of my life today, I decided to call one of my friends who I knew would cheer me up. I was very mistaken, she then told me that her dad (who had been divorced from her mom for a while) came out as *** two days ago.

I was dumbfounded, and having no clue how to respond, just was like 'wow' and 'oh,' for a good 5 minutes. The weird thing was my mind kept thinking of songs that could express my feelings about how her dad was ***, better than my bumbling form of English could.

So I'm going to make up a cd and send it to her.

Here's what I have come up with: (suggestions, comments concerns?)

1. The Weather Girls- It's Raining Men
2. Nirvana- Come As You Are
3. The Bloodhound Gang- I Wish I was Queer
4. Pet Shop Boys- It's a Sin
5. Cyndi Lauper- Girls Just Want to Have Fun
6. Peter Gabriel- Shock the Monkey
7. The White Stripes- Hardest Button to Button
8. Avenue Q- If you Were ***
9. Right Said Fred- I'm too Sexy

I want to get the list up to 17 so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Anal C*nt has about a zillion songs with the word g.a.y in the title

do you happen to have an upload of their cd? There name has always intimidated me, so I never have listened to them.

How about just giving her Mississauga Goddam or The Smell of our own by The Hidden Cameras. Kinda captures the essence of the queer subculture and the texts have a lot of references to what that man must have gone through. Not that her dad is "queer" necessarily. Plus, it's a lot less clichey than Cindy Lauper and The weather girls.

Can I just say that the title seems a bit offensive? Why would you be sorry that her dad's gay? How about props to him for finally coming out?

Kevorkian Logic 03-16-2007 07:56 PM

yea. you can say whatever you want to. She wasn't terribly happy about it, so I went with sorry.

Is this actually something you feel will cheer her up? How exactly are you going to present this to her? write "sorry your dad's ***" on a cd and then expect her to be comforted by a bunch of random cliched pop an comedy songs?

adidasss 03-16-2007 08:26 PM

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, the track list sorta seems like you're mocking her and the situation.

Go with the Hidden Cameras, it's good stuff.

yea, it will. She knows i'm doing it, and is delighted by the idea. I assume it will just make her laugh, and that's all I can really do, because I am absolutely terrible with the serious, let's-talk-about-how-we-feel stuff. Discussing emotions makes me and her, for that matter, squirm. I think that is why were such good friends, we have never discussed why we feel a certain way, we just accept that we feel that way, and move on with life and have fun.

Well if you really out to cheer her up by making her laugh then how about Popeyes famous "I am what I am" song?! :p:
