Drugs And Music - Your Views
 

Hi Im doing research for my dissertation about why some music genres have certain drugs asssociated with them and would like your views on the subject.

What, if any, drugs do you/have you taken to what genre of music, why did you take them, if you think any genres of music have had drug use change over time etc please let me know your views.

Also if you know of any other online forums I should ask these questions to please let me know. If you have anything else to add just contact me by my email address below.

I would link grunge music with drugs with the death of andy wood lead singer of Mother Love Bone and Malfunkshun and the death of Layne Staley and Kurt Cobain not to mention the countless other addictions that must've took plave.

Well... Drugs are being used by musicians? Wow!

I always wondered about:

The Gratedul Dead
The Doors
The Rolling Stones
The Beatles
Pink Floyd
Guns N Roses
Led Zepplin
The Yardbirds
Jimi Hendrix
Janis Joplin
Layne Stanley (God rest his soul!)

All kinding aside, there are far fewer musicians that don't do some sort of drug than ones that don't. IMO

Oddly enough, the members of Pink Floyd claimed to have never used drugs. That's the last band I would have expected that from, especially if you've heard Umma Gumma

Barrett, may have been, but I'm talking about the members once Roger Waters came along, like, ya know, if you watch The Wall you wouldn't think sober people could have been anywhere near the making of it.

I can see people who have used drugs before/mentally ill people making the wall.

i assume you mean dave gilmour since waters was a founding member? drugs are very important to music. they heighten your senses and consequently intensify the creativity. Rave was an aural detailing of an being off your head on ecstacy, psychedelia was the representation of an acid trip, and early VU was the projection of reed and cales heroin habit. Drugs are a big influence.

I love the ifluence drugs have had on music, except for ecstasy and rave. The techno craze had to be the worst music in history, because while there were a few good bands, they were very few and far between, and most techno is so repetitive and also mind bogglingly annoying.
