Bass is easier to play at a beginner's level when you're little more than a low frequency timekeeper, but far harder to master IMO.

It's only too easy to listen to a guitarist shredding and decide that bass is easier. But when you think about it, anyone can sit in a basement honing their guitar skills for five years until they're a walking fret wanker. But tight-knit bassists who can truly groove and write the perfect line for the song come along rarely.

it's takes more skill to leave the space between 4 notes per bar than it does to fill that bar with never ending arpeggios.

anyone who claims bass is for people who don't know how to play guitar has likely never learned how to do more than play connect the dot rock on their guitar.

All of the bassists I know personally can play both bass and guitar.

I'm a bass player, I dabble in the guitar, but it's just not nearly as fun as the bass either.

Exactly what the bassists I talk to say. I think thats a good thing. I would prefer bass over guitar anyways.

While Flea is still my favourite, I don't think anyone can deny the greatness of Jaco. This never fails to blow my mind.

And I'll leave this thread open since we don't have a General best bassist thread outside the muso section.
