I have not heard the 'official' Bat Chain, but someone told me that it is more of a gradual transition from the commercial stuff that came before it, with more of a blues feel and less edge than the Shiny Beast version. I do wish the 'Zappa Family Trust' had released a vinyl version of Bat Chain. God knows there is a market for it. Sigh. |

Goddamn right. I would have rushed out and bought that first day, while with the CD relrease I've been debating about since it came out. I'll probably get the CD eventually but still a bit lame. I guess there are always original Bat Chain Puller bootlegs on vinyl, but those aren't the greatest...so I hear.

It's funny that some people are more Zappa-oriented and others are bigger on Beefheart. It's like preferring John Cale or Lou Reed. I wonder, if one identified a passel of such rivalries, how would we line up and would there be any striking similarities?
I'm a Beefheart/Cale man myself. (Sounds like a salad...) |

Tried to get into Decals a few days ago. Just doesn't seem to be a patch on the best bits of TMR. I'l have to listen to it a bit more see if it's got any magic to work on me after a few more listens.
