Id would say that everything Ive posted here so far is a must listen and just because Mojo or Rolling Stone don't think so doesnt make me feel any different.

I don't need those b******s to vindicate my opinion.

Great great debut record by this band from Ohio that slipped under the radar. Future classic status is guaranteed.

Alexander Spence - Oar
The only album by this largely forgotten folkie. Played every instrument on the album himself. Influenced lo-fi folk music bands like Smog and Sebadoh.
The first album is from 2005, this thread is intended to educate music lovers about classics, which is why there's not a lot of albums from 2000 and upwards. The second is as you say yourself, a "forgotten folkie", that somehow takes away it's "must" listen quality.

That said, if someone backs your choices, I'll be more than happy to include them.

If we're just going to go with established 'classics' we may as well just skip all this altogether and sit around discussing the merits of this.

The biggest problem with that list is its totally obvious.

Oar is definetely a must listen. Consider that a "back-up."

Have you heard the version that Sundazed put out?

Its everything Spence recorded solo, everything from those Oar sessions, even a few unfinished songs he chose to record just cause they had some tape left.

Since Superfly has already been mentioned twice (By both Urban and I) I think it should probably be on the list. There are only a few soul albums that are as cohesive and original as Mayfield's classic.

I dunno know about everybody else...but not that I've thought about it, I think it may be best to exclude records made after 2000. I think we need the perspective granted by time to consider anything a true classic. Of course, exceptions could be made if someone presented their case really really well.
