Wonderful insight there Mikey.

I`m sure they said it was the Stone Roses debut last year.

and second someone cant declare a an album the best album ever, because all peoples opinions, my favourite album is nirvana unplugged, but thats me, and as lame as it sounds,m yes that is my fave album, but thousands of people would disagree. Its just like thebest songwriter articles// |
Here's the full list;
1. 'Definitely Maybe' - Oasis 2. 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' - The Beatles 3. 'Revolver' - The Beatles 4. 'OK Computer' - Radiohead 5. '(What's The Story) Morning Glory?' - Oasis 6. 'Nevermind' - Nirvana 7. 'The Stone Roses' - The Stone Roses 8. 'Dark Side Of The Moon' - Pink Floyd 9. 'The Queen Is Dead' - The Smiths 10. 'The Bends' - Radiohead 11. 'The Joshua Tree' - U2 12. 'London Calling' - The Clash 13. 'The Beatles (The White Album)' - The Beatles 14. 'Abbey Road' - The Beatles 15. 'Up The Bracket' - The Libertines 16. 'Never Mind The Bollocks Here's The Sex Pistols' - Sex Pistols 17. 'Four Symbols (Led Zeppelin IV)' - Led Zeppelin 18. 'The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars' - David Bowie 19. 'A Night At The Opera' - Queen 20. 'Is This It' - The Strokes I think 'Definately Maybe' is a great album and by far the best Oasis produced, but nowhere near the best ever. It wouldn't even figure in my personal top 100. If I had a top 20, only Bowie's 'Ziggy Stardust' would figure in it. It is a personal taste thing Mikey...but seriously 'Definately Maybe' at number 1...WTF! |
Soo...out of that 20...theres only one band from North America if im correct.
Also, How the fuck did the strokes make that list. The Strokes are garbage. |
Up The Bracket in there & Screamadelica isn`t
 |
pretty **** list, but then I wouldn't expect anything else from nme
have they not realised there's more to music than just rock? |
Embarrassing isn't it.
LesPaul...I know what you mean, the mag is Brit focused. I just love the way the readers have put the odd classic album in there too...you just know they won't even have listened to Queen's, 'A Night at The Opera'. |
I love magazines like this, they do this every year, how do they come up with a new greatest album of all time each year?
It's completely non-genuine. And haha to Oasis beating David Bowies album, even Radiohead beats Oasis. |

That being said, I would put Nirvana's Nevermind on number one, breakthough factor included, and overall influence on music and pop culture, which Definitely maybe, with respect to brit pop, didn't acomplish. Oh and do I see 4 albums by The beatles in the top 20? *yawn* |

I'd say the average 18 year old with a modicum of taste, would be able to pick at least 20 albums before even considering 'Definately Maybe'. Really these charts shouldn't include the term, "all time", in them. To do so, only makes it laughable and hard to take seriously, judging by some of the albums included in that list. |
I love the Srokes and I sorta liek the Libertines, but in to 20 of all time?!?!?!?!?
Puh-lease... |
They put "OK Computer" ahead of "Dark Side of the Moon" and "Nevermind". I can take nothing they say seriously.

I prefer Low to the David Bowie album they listed. I would say the 'best' Led Zeppelin album could go any way to be honest, so I don't dispute IV being up there. Practically all their albums are elite. I do like the Strokes, but they shouldn't be up there. I find it laughable that Definitely Maybe is rated that high (but yeah I know... opinions lollercopter). As for me, after listening to an amazingly large amount of music (I'm heading on 500 GB in music/concerts), my favourite album ever is still Blood Sugar Sex Magik (RHCP). |

(that list sucks d*ck) |
Right lets go through the whole list...
1. 'Definitely Maybe' - Oasis Good , but should be about 50 places lower 2. 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' - The Beatles Most over rated album of all time 3. 'Revolver' - The Beatles My favourite Beatles album , but nothing with Yellow Submarine should be this high. 4. 'OK Computer' - Radiohead Worthy of it`s placing 5. '(What's The Story) Morning Glory?' - Oasis Should be about 100 places lower 6. 'Nevermind' - Nirvana One trick pony 7. 'The Stone Roses' - The Stone Roses Genius , but most people outside the UK hate it or don`t appreciate the impact it had. 8. 'Dark Side Of The Moon' - Pink Floyd Not even Pink Floyds best album 9. 'The Queen Is Dead' - The Smiths Although I don`t like them I don`t think they ever did an album that can be considered one of the best , they were a better singles band 10. 'The Bends' - Radiohead Good but dated 11. 'The Joshua Tree' - U2 Sh*t 12. 'London Calling' - The Clash Token punk entry 13. 'The Beatles (The White Album)' - The Beatles Half this album is utter rubbish 14. 'Abbey Road' - The Beatles Can we have some different bands please , I`d rather have Pet Sounds here & I hate Pet Sounds apart from 2 songs. 15. 'Up The Bracket' - The Libertines HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA You can tell this is an NME poll 16. 'Never Mind The Bollocks Here's The Sex Pistols' - Sex Pistols Not as good as Metal Box 17. 'Four Symbols (Led Zeppelin IV)' - Led Zeppelin :banghead: Lazy journalism 18. 'The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars' - David Bowie I can think of 4 Bowie albums better than this 19. 'A Night At The Opera' - Queen Overblown pompous rubbish 20. 'Is This It' - The Strokes F*ck off |

You can't open up an NME or Q magazine without Noel or Liam jumping up in your face. So I'm not really surprised.
|
Best album eva!!11!! is Iron Maiden's 'Number of the Beast', considering its influence, but my top 5 are:
1) Blind Guardian - A Night at the Opera. 2) Gamma Ray - Rebellion in Dreamland. 3) Rhapsody - Symphony of Enchanted Lands (Part 2). 4) Kamelot - The Fourth Legacy. 5) Nightwish - Century Child. EDIT: ****, this wasn't an opinions thread. Apologies. |
NME are so predictable.

So where was Sonic Youth on the list? ;)
Actually that list is much better than most NME lists I have seen and that's the sad thing about it. |
At least they put London Calling ahead of Nevermind The Bollocks, but really, apart from that I agree with most of what you've all just said. The Nme is an awful magazine these days though. Sad but true.

I'd take The Holy Bible over Nevermind any day of the week.
|
Nevermind=better album than OK Computer
Nirvana=more influential than Radiohead Nirvana=better band than Radiohead Good music>lame-o Radiohead sh*t |
Lol, I'd take Pablo Honey over Nevermind, and that's one awful album.

^care to elaborate whats so bad about Nevermind? or better yet, whats so good about OK Computer?
|
Wow some people have really bought into this Nevermind hype.

I dont think you can judge influence of 90s bands just yet. I think it'll be a good ten years before the 90s children start making music. No point putting an argument for the last two points seeing as they are just pure opinion. |
Nevermind is simplistic guitar rock that loses it`s appeal with every listen.
OK Computer is multi layered and has a wider canvas of influences that stands up to repeated listening. |
Aye, what they said.
God I'm a slow typer. |
Agreed with Urban Hatemonger
