do you think that adding videos to good song actualy makes the song worst?
"do you think that making music videos with good songs make the music better or worst"
me personally depending on how the music video is made it can make the song better. |
I think all/most videos are trite, boring, and pointless. I just generally don't care for watching bands unless they're 15 or less feet from me.

like i Said before "a well done video can make a song look better and viceversa"

I can count on one hand the number of music videos that I thought were good |

There are a few good music videos. One of my favourites is Do The Evolution by Pearl Jam. Thats the way to do a video.
|
yeah but it depends on the type of video because there are "a lot" of anime and cartoons music video like "Final Fantacy & Naruto" and i know all this because my little brother has practickly everyone ever made:usehead:

^Those kind of videos>>>>>>>Music videos. But I don't like live videos where they just stand there and sound just ok. |

To the TC, how could adding a music video to a song possibly alter the quality of that song? |
What's prententious about wanting to someone actually do something? Huge venues and music videos are boring.
|
I quite like a lot of music videos, some bands do it with style.

^ Take this video as an example of why they add nothing to the song. Now I'm being biased here, because when it comes to soul...I'm a purist. I know this song is well liked, because it was covered by Soft Cell, but the imagery that the original puts in my mind is far superior to this crap, which not only adds nothing to the song, but looks like it has nothing to do with it either! Marc Almond looks like a demented Kenneth Williams playing Nero at an English garden party. WTF. How this video didn't ruin his carreer...God only knows. When I listen to a song, the images I get in my head are personal to me and therefore superior in every way. With the rare exception...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3neR407MxU As fellow Mancunian, Richard Ashcroft demonstrates above. ^ As a rule, music vids are a waste of time. |
I watched the video on you tube and I dont like when they are like home made and stuff.
|
It kind of depends if the song is good because if you have a good song and a bad video, than yeah I guess it could ruin the song. But if the song is bad and the video is good than I guess it could make the song better.
|
videos can hardly ever make the song worse.
if you dont like the video, so what. still a good song. but a good video can add to the song easy. if it isnt just the band on a stage. then its dull. but its just another art form to add to the sound. i like em. |
I don't see the what the problem is with music videos, there are bands who put a lot of effort into making them, such as Tool and Radiohead. Plus even the terrible ones can be entertaining.
|
its just that some music videos are just really ****y and when you hear the song of the music video you just want to puke all over your self. :-(:bringit:
|
Well I don't know about the puking part, but I can see where you're coming from. Although a music video has never ruined a song for me.

Here is an example of an excellent and recent music video. I don't even like Kasabian that much, but this quite impressed me. |
its ok i guess
|
In my experience it makes them better, for example. The Offspring's Pretty Fly For a White Guy, if they hadn't made that video I would've hated that song. But the video is hilarious!
|
yeah
|
I don't see what's so great about the Kasabian video - it just rips off the old iPod ads.
There are some good videos out there for current tracks - the Justice v. Simian and OK Go ones for example, and the Tim Burton video for the Killers song "Bones" bearable. And there are some excellent directors out there (Michel Gondry & Chris Cunningham, for example). But generally most videos are pretty formulaic. But I've never known a bad video to ruin a song... I'd go along with whoever here said a good video can improve a song, but a bad video doesn't detract from it. |
I don't think that music videos detract from individual songs. I think they can detract from the overall state of the music industry in general though. Crap music which is propelled by a great video has the overall effect of pushing crap music up the charts.
Having said that, its easier to fit a good video for a song which has a good beat or tells a good story in the lyrics, so if it encourages bands to write music with these qualities then maybe it's a benefit too. |
