my list my list and I dont care who knows it !!!
these were the 25 albums of 2006 I enjoyed the most, in order (kinda, that's tough) .... feel free to rip me a new one if you feel its needed or post your own freaking list and declare it 'on'. (merrychristmas).
1. Hot Chip - The Warning ***Electronic dance based lovely folk music 2. Sunset Rubdown - Shut up! I am dreaming ***Stories told with hate'em or love vocals and great piano pieces 3. The Decemberists - The Crane Wife ***If the Decemberists formed in 1974, they'd have sounded like this sooner 4. The Mountain Goats - Get Lonely ***I got lonely, I reached for Johns soothing melodies and lyrics 5. Peter Bjorn and John - Writers Block ***FUn varied and smart to boot. 6.Clispe - Hell Hath No Fury ***The best rap of the year, in probably all aspects 7. The Hold Steady - Boys and Girls in America ***the band sounds together but the lyrics didnt interest me like craigs do. 8. The Game - THe Doctors Advocate *** (I love the west coast, can you tell?) 9. Joannna Newson - YS ***Beautiful, smart uniquely structured album 10.The Pippetes - We are the Pippetes ***Love the hooks, love the vocals, love the girl to man sexism 11.Yo La Tengo - I am not afraid of you and I will beat your ass ***You heard? They still have it!!! 12.The Thermals - The Blood the Body The Machine ***relgious political lyrics served fast and with a side of guitar hooks. 13.Bob Dylan - Modern Times ***Three good albums in a row, and I love him so. 14.The Knife - Silent Scream ***I dont listen to enough techno and this band reminded me of that 15.Junior Boys - So this is Goodbye? ***Very well made electronic music (that you can dance to) 16.Califone - Roots and Crowns ***A very consistant band that will never take the easy way out 17.TV On The Radio ***so not fair to them, but I feel compelled to type"diet radiohead"(im anass) 18.Sonic Youth ***Jim left with the noise so Thurston dusted off the pop, and it works. 19.Beck - The Information ***Sorry I know he's musically settled and i'm sorrybut I happened to dig it 20.Rock Central Plaza - Are we not horses? ***Good concept, good vocals but the lyrics keep it from being a masterpiece 21.Girl Talk - Night Ripper ***A great DJ mixing up your favorite (and least favorite) radio hits! 22.Xiu Xiu - The Air Force ***amazing how XiuXiu albums are so unique and yet sound like"xiuxiu albums" 23.GhostFaceKilla - Fishscale ***Excellent production and first rate rapping 24.LupeFiasco - Food and Liquor ***The clean production, the rising strings = YES! Lyrics were a little safe. 25.The Streets - The Hardest Way to Make an Easy Living ***The new Mike Skinner isnt as interesting , but the music is still very good

wow, that's a great list for 2006. Here's some suggestions to add on to list.
It's by alphabet since my itunes says so, but they're all great for 2006: ...And You Will Know Us By the Trial of Dead - So Divided ***It grew on me, reminded me of their source tags Ad Astra Per Aspera - Catapault Calypso ****I just loved their raw sound, it reminded me of ATD-I Aloha - Some Echoes *****Amazing CD by Aloha, one of the best in 2006. Challenges everything Arctic Monkeys - whatever people say... *** Catchy stuff The Battle Royal - Sparkle Dust Fantasy ***Highschool band thats putting out good dance music with guitars and drum Black Moth Super Rainbow + The Octopus Project- The House of Apples ***You want to listen to trippy ****? What about Dance? What about both? The End of the World- You're Making It Come Alive *** Its simply garage rock, which is why its so simple and easy to enjoy The Evens- Get Evens *****THe famous Ian from Minor threat and fugazi debuts with his new band, creating songs that are catchy and driving as seen from fugazi. Think of it as being new and improved. Forward Russia- Give me a Wall **** Spazz rock. Amazing fast paced rock that just goes everywhere HeadLights- Kill Them with Kindness **** How can you not like this pop indie band. Catchy as hell. Their song TV is top 10 in best songs on my list Joan of Arc- Eventually, All at once **** Joan of arc, what do you think k-os- Atlantis- Hyms 4 Disco **** One of the best experimental hip-hop Cds every made. I think one of their songs is even in a zune commerical Lab Rats- S/T *** Sounds like Eminem, but only 5 times better Make Believe- Of Course *****Really, really good. Tim Kinsella band that is getting pretty big Mall- (Emergency at Everyday) **** Spazz electronica, I really enjoyed MSTRKRFT- The Looks *** Can't have a party without dance music Owen- Out Home With **** Hauntingly beautiful folk Plus / Minus - Let's Build a Fire ***** Easily top 3 of the year, think postal service The Receiver- Decades *** Aloha sounding, using non-traditional instruments to convey lovely songs Rx-Bandits - ... And the Battle Begun ***** They really outdid themselves here. Anyone likes somewhat prog rock will love this fast paced band Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin- S/T ***** This makes my top 3 as well. Catchy, throwback indie pop. Every song is a single on this album And last but not least: Zebrahead- Broadcast to the world *** How can you not like this pop rock band. Very catchy songs on this CD and a great car CD for friends that generally listen to the radio -All in all 2006 did not have any groundbreaking records, but it definitelly had some really great albums. It was good to see bands that put some quality CDs out there from start to finish. If anyone wants advice on which CDs to get, PM me.

1. Drop the Lime - We Never Sleep Bmore, Dubstep, and Jungle influenced Breakcore artist. Perfect club album. 2. MSTRKRFT - The Looks Best Electro album of last year. 3. Plastic Little - She's Mature Bmore-style joke rappers from Philly. 4. Daedelus - Denies the Day's Demise LA-based Hip Hop-influenced Electronic artist. Beautiful album. 5. The Rapture - Pieces of the People We Love Excellent follow-up by one of the better Dance-Punk bands. 6. Girl Talk - Night Ripper Pitchfork-approved mashup album by a scientist from Philly. 7. The Changes - Today Is Tonight Indie Rock that's better than most blog buzz bands. 8. The Presets - Beams Excellent Electro album by an Australian duo. They played Daft Punk in the middle of their set when I saw them live, so they must be good. 9. Magic People - Keen Whips I'd Wear As Rubies Noise Rock band from Boston. More accessible than the Locust. 10. Tiga - Sexor Electro Pop album by the guy that got famous for covering "Hot In Herre" and "I Wear My Sunglasses At Night." 11. Hot Chip - The Warning Really fun Electro Pop album, slightly laidback. 12. Hanne Hukkelberg - Rykestrasse 68 Kind of Experimental Norwegian Indie Pop. Bjork-ish. 13. Cex - Actual ****ing Former Breakcore artist finds band, makes excellent Electro Pop-ish album. 14. Spank Rock - YoYoYoYoYo Great Bmore Rap album. Kind of watered down compared to most Bmore, but he's probably the most famous artist to come out of it now. 15. Junior Boys - So This Is Goodbye Really good Canadian Electro Pop album. I preferred their first, but this is still a good album. 16. Benoît Pioulard - Précis Really pretty, mellow singer-songwriter album. Not actually French. 17. Kid 606 - Pretty Girls Make Raves Breakcore artist pays homage to Techno. 18. DJ Mehdi - Lucky Boy First album released on Busy P's (Daft Punk's manager) Ed Banger label. Nice blend of Electro and Hip-Hop. 19. Whitest Boy Alive - Dreams Indie Pop album from Norwegian artist Erlend Oye. A more rocking Kings of Convenience. 20. Aerial - Black Rain from the Bombing Swedish Post-Rock band. Poppier than most Post-Rock. 21. Mono - You Are There Japanese Post-Rock band. Heavier than most Post-Rock. 22. Xiu Xiu - The Air Force Xiu Xiu just keeps getting better and better. This album features his best song to date, "Save Me." 23. Bears - Bears Pretty typical Indie Pop band, but I like it a lot. 24. The Horror The Horror - S/T Swedish band that somehow manages to rip off all the bands that all those Garage Rock Revivalists did a few years after the fact and do it better than any of them ever could. Kind of Strokes-y, kind of Libertines-y, extra-poppy. 25. The Sounds - Dying to Say This to You This is an excellent Pop album. Lots of fun, and the chick is hot. |

WOW! You can pick 25?
I don't think I even like 25 albums from 2006. UM..................... Amputechture - The Mars Volta The Eraser - Thom Yorke Yes, Virginia - The Dresden Dolls Takk.... Sigur Ros (was that 06 or 05, I can't remember) Orphans - Tom Waits There's 5. Other than those I'd only pick re-releases like Eat A Peach - The Allman Brothers Band (deluxe edition with the last Fillmore East concert on the second disc).
