Best Christmas Songs of all time

I want to know what some of your favorite Christmas songs are. They can be traditional or otherwise. My personal favorite is "Santa Claus Go Straight to the Ghetto" by Snoop Dogg

Low - just like xmas is epic but that whole album is good. Wrote as a gift to fans!

Has to be "Mr. Hankey The Christmas Poo". That, or "Silent Night".

^^Good call on The Residents, but it's even better with 'Seasoned Greetings' as an intro.

I love the Features - Father Christmas (their own, not a cover)

And the Whirling Dervishes cover "You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch" really well.

clutnuckle 12-08-2010 12:03 PM

Oh how badly I want the holidays just upon hearing this... Such a drunken, dissonant, nonsensical, BEAUTIFUL cover.

Ska Lagos Jew Sun Ra 12-11-2010 12:53 PM

Don't know how I didn't think of this one. Encapsulates the spirit of Christmas perfectly:

^That album is by far one of my favorite Christmas albums of all time. Even by itself, not during the holidays, it's a fantastic album.

zachsd 12-12-2010 02:31 AM

Really pulls at the heart strings.

So much that it almost gives me an aneurysm.

FaSho 12-12-2010 06:47 AM

I really dig that song for some reason. Everyone I know hates it though.

Astronomer 12-13-2010 10:57 PM

Pretty much sums up my view about Christmas, plus Kate-Miller Heidke is a beautiful singer. Plus it's not about snow and shit and totally irrelevant to Australians.

Seltzer 12-13-2010 11:15 PM

This counts doesn't it? :D

And I don't normally like traditional xmas songs (and harbour a borderline hatred for Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer), but Good King Wenceslas is all g.

Wait, are you referring to the Christmas Shoes song? If so... actually, I don't even know what to say.

musiclistsareus 12-14-2010 04:21 AM

It's Christmas Time by Larry Norman
The Promise by Michael Card (an entire album of christmas originals)
Snow Angels by Over the Rhine (another whole album of christmas originals)
Jesus Born on this Day, All I Want for Christmas is You, Miss you Most at Christmas Time, and Jesus O What a Wonderful Child all on Mariah Carey's first christmas album
Everything on the Smithereen's christmas album and Vince Guaraldi's music for the Charlie Brown christmas special

That's christmas as far as I'm concerned

I like those three a lot too. "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" has such a great melody and of course gets props for namedropping Satan.

Hey, it's still about liking Christmas! But for other reasons, such as family :)

But yeah actually I am a scrooge. You would be too if you had to spend Christmas alone!

euphmatik 12-14-2010 11:54 PM

Stevie...

Someday at Christmas by Stevie wonder is one of my favorites!!

euphmatik 12-14-2010 11:57 PM

You could kidnap a few of your students, buy some tickets to Tasmania, and have yourself a lovely little Christmas! :)

Haha, I like it :) Although kidnapping a bunch of 6 year olds and going to Tasmania of all places would not end pretty...

The Vandals - A Gun For Christmas

"I will use my new weapon in self-defense and sport
and to keep the carolers off my god damn porch
"

to be honest i think that "Oi! To The World" is probably my favorite Vandals album....they managed to make a great punk rock album with out insulting the spirit of christmas

the title track gained a bit of notoriety when No Doubt covered it a few years ago....i found out a few days ago while listening to an interview with Joe Escalante (bass player) who wrote the song...that 100% of the royalties for this song goes to The Special Olympics.....which is pretty damn cool

Dayvan Cowboy 12-18-2010 05:31 PM

not a Christmas song but it sure reminds me of it!
