Oh c'mon, prog has like 12 sub-genres and thats about it, and of course even terms like Progressive Metal are pretty broad since many bands in that category don't sound much alike.
And Italian Prog isn't any lamer a term that Brit-Pop, it's simply used to discribe the Progressive Rock scene of that region, I do agree however that most of those bands can easly fall into other categorys like Symphonic Prog and whatnot, it's not really a genre. Prog dosen't have anywhere as many subgenres as Metal or Punk, obviously because it's not as popular. |

Metal is performed almost entirely by human body parts and as a result should be more instinctive, so to me it seems strange to try to describe it like some kind of machine. But whatever floats your boats. |

Wow, that Wiki link was eye-opening. I am liking this forum more and more already. But, for bands I could do without, Puddle of Mudd.... never understood that one, but thats the beauty of music, to each his own.

you could subdivide more if you want.
But that is what I see as valid. People can add what they want. But those are the only ones that I think have any real distinction between them
