Radiohead sucks ass.
The Sex Pistols sucked ass.
The Who was more influential than The Beatles.
The Who were also more influential than Zeppelin.
John Lennon was a whiny hippie whore.
Paul Mcartney was, and continues to be a whiny, hippie whore.
Fall Out Boy is a decent band.
I wish John Lennon wasn't dead (popular opinion but...) so that he wouldn't be as worshipped and glorified.

There.

I wouldn't be in the slightest surprised if the complete opposite were true.

It's not that I'm a Who fanboy, it's just that's my opinion. I know they're all very influential bands, but I think the Who just did more for music. They brought hard rock to the mainstream in the 60's (before Zeppelin), took stage presence to new levels, and helped get punk music started.

But isn't the point of the thread to share unpopular opinions?

Well... it's hard to tell. He may have done some great things had he still been alive, but people might also have just gotten sick and tired of him.

The influentially of something isn't subjective though. The Who didn't do nearly as much for punk as everyone would like to think. The Stooges, MC5, The Velvet Underground, The New York Dolls, The Jam all much more important bands to punk. Just because they wrote a song talking about their "generation" and had a "punk attitude" doesn't mean they did much for it. Even if they did do all that you listed they still wouldn't be as influential as the Beatles.

The Beatles: Jump started two major musical movements, revolutionized popular music, are the most popular, critically acclaimed group of all time, and spawned three mega star solo careers, one of which is still churning out top 10 albums.
The Who: Brought a single sub genre to the mainstream and helped to plant the seeds of Punk. Nice thing to have on your mantle, but really?

They didn't even help plant the seeds of punk and I don't think we should count McCartney's solo career as a positive, if anything it's a negative. His music nowadays is awful.

On McCartney, I agree it's horrible, but hey, he's still the biggest figure in music. On The Who, I know they didn't actually help start punk, but I didn't feel like arguing it.
