i also think 50 cent had kanye's mom killed off after he lost the sales battle to kanye. 50 is a man that doesn't take losing to fruity rappers like kanye kindly.

In all fairness, 50 is the one who took it in the mouth.

yes but still less fruity than saying that beyonce's "single ladies" was one of the greatest videos/songs of all time.

But far more fruity than banging Kim Kardashian.

I just liked hearing a French guy say "Shaniqua".

Perhaps this is a better way to describe it, then.

Kevin Barnes has, in all music of his I have ever heard, which does include what is critically accounted his "best" work, an attitude of such incredibly stereotypical "I did a home-stay abroad, so you will never be able to comprehend me" arrogance, coupled with an overblown sense of self-importance that I cannot, despite the pleasant sound of his music, ever listen to it without rolling my eyes. He sings like a college boy (instead of a man), like a sophomore lording it over the freshmen, and the unexamined premises of his music make it worse.

(Disclaimer: I know nothing about Kevin Barnes' personal philosophy beyond what can be gleaned from his music, but it is of his music that I am writing.)

The same issues occur in Conor Oberst's music, minus the home-stay abroad aspect.

As for Real Estate, I had the misfortune to listen to them right after having heard Guns 'n' Roses for the first time. Guns 'n' Roses sing about being MEN, about making choices, even said choices are only "Ride bikes, **** women, and do drugs!!!". They are doing something wholeheartedly, whatever that something might be. Real Estate spends its time wishing it could make a decision. Though that might indeed be a reflection of the common attitude of their target audience, it is not one that belongs to a grown-up. The defining characteristics of adulthood are choice and responsibility, making decisions and taking responsibility for their outcomes. I am an adult, and if I want to listen to music for children, I will listen to the Frozen soundtrack when my daughters play it.
