Nowhere i just don't get the mentality you have to like iconic rock groups just cause they're iconic.

i personally like The Beatles but not cause of their iconic status but because i just like their songs however im not a fan of The Rolling Stones, Jimmi or Led zepellin even though just like the beatles ppl luv to constantly use this groups as examples of what Rock should be all about as if you're obligated to like them to know your music history.

You don't have to like them to respectfully acknowledge what they brought to rock music.

This. The Stones have a swagger about them which doesn't do anything for me personally. I've listened to each of The London Years, Beggars Banquet, Exile on Main Street, and Let It Bleed multiple times, so it's not like I haven't tried. In the end, I don't think I can be called a true fan of rock music, because at its core, I dislike it. For the most part, I don't like bands with dark or depressing lyrics. There are a few exceptions, the Doors, for one. For the most part, I dislike aggressive music. There are very few exceptions to that, and most of them come from bands I like for other reasons. Thank-you for this debate, Urban and others - it took me almost my entire lunch to compose this reply, and it's made me realize a few things about my tastes which were puzzling me.

Getting the Rolling Stones =/= liking the Rolling Stones.
