ppl like you can give them all the credit you want but i personally don't like artist who don't write their own stuff it's just that simple, it's a personal preference what's pretentious about that?

I honestly don't understand how ppl that are blessed with a great voice don't write their own lyrics, it's like you have and incredible voice that sings incredible words but they are not your words someone wrote them for you.

the only credit i can give you for that is that you performed it great and there is merit and talent in that but you didn't create and that fact alone personally disappoints me a bit.
Yeah, **** it. I agree Francis. Go all in or go home. I won't change my opinion just because others don't agree. In the music industry, I'm not talking about the field of acting. Music, that is it. If you're going to get up there and try to sell your show to me, yet the words you're singing aren't yours, I'm walking out, simple as that. I never have supported singers, bands that do that crap. I won't start now.

And hows that any different from the bass player or the guitarist writing the words?

Well I guess you have no interest in attending a gig outside of a narrow sphere of rock or pop music.

Pop music? Not ever haha. You couldn't pay me to see a Pop concert.

And it isn't different in my eyes because the bass player or guitarist are members of the band. If it is within that group of people. There's no dishonesty there. We're talking about people or bands that get handed their hits by their label. That **** drives me up a wall. Don't be in a ****ing band if you can't do that **** yourselves.

The reason I brought up Grammy's because he mentioned them himself in his first post. Regardless if you care about them or not.

Well then please explain to me then how Geezer Butler writing lyrics for Black Sabbath is any different to Bernie Taupin writing lyrics for Elton John, the only difference was one man would play on stage and one didn't.
How is one more legitimate than the other?

That said. I still watch the Grammy's. Why? Fun to laugh at. And when an artist that I consider to have some merit, or is someone I can respect to a point is nominated. I'm a bit happier. But those artists rarely get the award.

Not much different that's why in my first post i described them as instruments.

In groups it is established it is a collaboration and for the most part the singer usually write his own lyrics, but with solo artist that dont write their own material that collaboration happens behind stage, that little detail bothers me too cause it feels like you're trying to fool me.

i hear them sing beautifully based on a substance they didn't write so i feel the depth they express is manufactured.
i don't expect ppl to get what i mean, like i said it's a personal thing.

So a band like Primal Scream who regularly bring in guest musicians, producers, writers, remixers are a bunch of fakes are they?

Hm, fair point. Geezer Butler was Black Sabbaths bassist, there's that. So the guy isn't just some dude at a label, handing a band a hit to sing. But I still will say that any member of Black Sabbath could write the lyrics too, Geezer was just the primary.

I've never liked that Elton John didn't really every write any of his own lyrics. But he's one of those people that make me look like a hypocrite when I say he is talented beyond belief, even though he wasn't much of a lyricist.

haha

im not familiar with primal scream.

look man, like i said it's a personal thing and i don't want to go into too much detail about it cause it's not something i can rationally explain beyond that it is just my personal preference.
