Racism is inevitable when discussing Elvis and his success because that played a BIG reason in his success. So racism will be discussed regardless whether people want it or not. Its disgusting, its ugly but its a big reason in his success so it will get talked about. Elvis was not out of this world talented and there were a ton of African American entertainers and singers that were more talented and did more for Rock N Roll. Now that is my opinion. Nobody here has to agree with it and if people are Elvis fans that is fine and I will respect that But he did not pioneer Rock N Roll/Blues. Those were established genres way before he had a recording contract and they were pioneered by African American artists. |

Rock n Roll was a mixture of Country music, R&B, Gospal & Blues. It was never 'stolen' from Black people, neither race can claim ownership of it based on the face it took both white & black influences to be created in the first place. And you're right, Elvis created neither, nobody did. It evolved from what came before it.

Because I am a big fan of artists from his era and I have read old interviews and footages. Elvis has meant and admired performers like Jackie Wilson (who I love and who Elvis was good friends with) BUT never publicly insisted that Jackie inspired him and that he went to his shows in the back wings watching him to come out with ideas for his act and dance moves. EVERYTHING Elvis did in his live shows that was ALL Jackie Wilson. I think he was also influenced by Jackie's singing style. He meant with BB king and Fats Dominos himself which is why it is troubling that he never acknowledged he was inspired and imitated these black performers. I would have way more respect for him if he had did. I am not being arrogant. There is no public account of Elvis insisting black performers inspired him. There are just photos with him with Jackie, Fats, Chuck etc and proof that he went to there shows. Another with Jackie Elvis with Sammy Davis Jr Elvis and Young James Brown Thumbnail is with Fats Dominos and BB King Last edited by Soulflower; 08-12-2014 at 08:51 AM. |

A Lot of people accused Elvis of stealing their stage mannerisms, when in fact, almost every black solo artist copied Elvis' - Jackie Wilson
