Next up we should talk about how apples are objectively the best fruit of all times.
"they are the most popular fruit in first world cultures" one expert says "they had a heavy influence on many other fruits we enjoy today, such as the grapple" another declares |

How we as a society arrive at 'objective truths' is usually nothing more than simple observation of the majority of subjective truths (opinons). And it doesn't even matter what's being discussed. You go back 600 years and you may find an objective truth back then was that the sun revolved around the earth. In this case, if you asked 100 random people what they thought they was the greatest band of all time, I hypothesize that the most frequent answer would be the Beatles. I also hypothesize you would get similar results in just about anywhere. This is at least how I see it. ^ |

How can you declare any particular band or musician to be the best? What is the criteria for being the best? Record sales? Technical proficiency? Cultural Impact? Legacy? Innovation? Loudest growls? Most sincere lyrics? Who uses the most goofed up tuning? How much I can personally relate to them? Nobody can claim any artist in a subjective field to be the best 'by fact' On, an unpopular opinion. I guess I'm like Ninetails, The Beatles just don't interest me. At all. |

You do not see a difference between "the earth is round" and "apples are the greatest fruit"? The reasone why there is no "objective" greatest band ever is because there are no definitive criteria to judge music as a whole by (thank god for that). If you think the beatles are indeed the best, fine, but dont think for a second that the reasons for which youve come up with that conclusion are anything but subjective. Oh and before this gets brought up, and im sure it will: Record sales are objective. Record sales correlating to greatness is not. |

No matter which side of the argument, it's important to accept that sales =/= quality

Getting back to the Beatles
I was away from this thread for a while, but you guys got talking about the Beatles. Anyway, like I said everyone sees them through rose tinted glass, this whole 60's counterculture thing and all that. Now I'm assuming here many of you were born AFTER the 60's yes? Or maybe you were born right at the end and were too young to really remember. Most people I know that are of that generation where they grew up as teenagers listening to the bands of the 60's remember the Beatles as being rather standard. Now I will admit they're good, and their music is listenable, but essentially they're just the boyband of the 60's, just like One Direction (albeit 100000x more talented). That's just my opinion though. I do like the White album, but their earlier stuff is just kinda cheesy pop imo. They also kinda cashed in on the whole psychedelia thing because it was trendy.

And when I'm in the mood for the earlier stuff I definitely agree on Haunting the Chapel. Even if it's short it still captures Slayer's early ideas at their apex. "Chemical Warfare" is pretty much all that is good about first wave black metal. If you're a bigger fan of that period of their career I'm curious how this grabs you.
