I think the Ramones are simply more endearing. Their music is kind of cute.

Then again I might have a biased opinion because this happened (and heaven knows I love the Ronettes):

Spoiler for Ramones - "Baby I Love You":

And this also happened (Russell Mael of Sparks lends his golden pipes to the chorus) and you bet your ass I bought "Pleasant Dreams" because of this.

Spoiler for Ramones - "Don't Go":

Same.

My parents were very pleased/confused when I was rockin' the Carpenters all day.

I'm sure someone has said this many times before but the Pistols really were a punk rock version of boy bands - Svengali manager, style over substance, no real talent etc.

Did you just call punk rock cute!?? I can't get past that. Curse your perversion of a perfectly good genre of music!

Also, on the subject of modern punk, I think one of the reasons people hate it is because people who listen to it have no clue about any of the older punk rock bands. I for one have no idea who this Sex Pistols band is and why they are mentioned incessantly. Perhaps I should go check them out..

I don't even think I would have called the Ramones "punk" at all. They were too soft and adorable with their approach, but still a little much to be "power pop".

I like them.

I get the weird looks from anyone my own age and older after admitting it, but I'm cool with the Ramones.

gave right the **** up after hearing this pop drivel:

^I've always really hated that song. First, it's got that dull bubblegum sound. Secondly, the answer to the question is clearly answered in the song's own lyrics. If you go there will be trouble, if you stay there will be double. So obviously go, right? Twice the trouble is obviously worse, no? WTF is this classic punk rock band doing exactly? GO
