Why were/are the Sex Pistols such a big deal?

They have one studio album to show for (and a collection of bootlegs and other shit that probably didn't see the light of day at the height of their success) and while it was punk, it's not really something you'd think would spark a goddamn legacy.

I'm gonna go ahead and agree because I've never really felt a particular connection with the genre.

I'm partial to these girls for some reason:

Spoiler for The Slits - "I Heard it Through the Grapevine":

and oh lord, don't get me started on how lovely Siouxsie Sioux is....

Spoiler for Siouxsie & the Banshees - "Happy House":

But punk has always sounded pretty lame to me.

Especially faux-punk crap like Green Day and all the other garbage you'd find on the angsty 13-year-old of the millennium's mixtapes. Subpar musicianship, unpleasant vocals, etc. I get it's "punk" and not supposed to be pretty or whatever, but I've never been partial to it.

Malcolm McLaren is an interesting subject concerning the punk genre. Kinda like a UK version of Andy Warhol per say.

I agree with all of the punk rock statements posted in this thread because they are ALL undisputedly unpopular opinions.

I still don't see much of a difference between the Ramones and Blink-182, at least, not enough of a difference for me to see why one is fervently hated compared to the other.

That being said, I listen to punk rock a helluva lot less than I did when I was a 13 year old.
