I never played into that hype that The Beatles are rock gods that can do no wrong, i don't even view my fav band the Pixies that way.

I had the magical history tour album and i remember telling my friends about it and them saying "I am the eggman!" they all knew I Am the Walrus or Strawberry fields but my fav track was Blue jay way.

i was like, "What about the Blue jay track?"

And they were like "Which songs is that? i don't know it"

Confirming to me most of them never heard the album they were just repeating some popular opinion they heard.

Someone was telling me the other day about their friend who hadn't heard of John Lennon.

I wondered if it could just be that enough time has now elapsed that this is now understandable, even though she is 19 or 20, but then I was told she hadn't heard of Nelson Mandela either.

Bob Marley is overrated. Granted, I've only heard a few of his songs, but they weren't impressive enough to have me believe the hype.

Agree on this. I like him and all but he's not my favourite. I rank Peter Tosh and King Tubby higher than him.

The thing that annoys me about his fanbase is that most of them seem to be stoners who like him simply because he was one of them.

I honestly can't come up with another reason why a musician who's been dead for 30+ years is liked so much by my generation. I can understand why many like The Beatles or Rolling Stones, but at least they had hits and changed the musical landscape forever. Marley never had that kind of cultural impact when he was alive, so his sudden influx of "fans" is puzzling.

Honestly I feel the same about Black Sabbath. I mention I dig BS and people be like 'Yeah me too! Iron Man is suuuuuuch a good song!'

Any older, well known band has a dedicated base of poseurs who buy t-shirts because of a few songs.

You're kind of an ignorant prick.
