Indie pretty much ruled the 90s and was great in the 80s too. But I think Indie is way too overexposed now, and right now prog has a lot better stuff to offer as far as I'm concerned. The Mars Volta, Porcupine Tree, Ozric Tentacles, Spocks Beard, Flower Kings, Battles, Kayo Dot, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, The Fall of Troy, Godspeed You!!! Black Emperor, Isis. Overall this is a lot more interesting and musically stimulating to me than todays Indie scene.

HEY. Thats an unpopular opinion, good thing I posted that here eh?
Agreed on the prog part. I think prog is going through a golden age and it seems that a lot of proggers agree that this is possibly the best era since the 70s.

A lot of proggies scorn and belittle indie music for supposedly not being innovative or compositionally complex enough. I think the truth is entirely the opposite: there is much more creative and inventive experimentation within music within the indie scene of the last 10 years or so than there has been within either the prog or metal scene of the same time span.
Go to the ProgArchives, say that and people will show that that's just not true. 2007 was great for Prog.

To quote an interestingly true song:
The Beatles - Were just a band.
Led Zepplin - Just a band.
The Beach Boys - Just a band.
The Sex Pistols - Just a band.
The Clash - Just a band.
Crass - Just a band.
Minor Threat - Just a band.
The Cure - just a band.
The Smiths - Just a band.
Nirvana - Just a band.
The Pixies - Just a band.
Oasis - Just a band.
Radiohead - they're just a band.
Bloc Party - Just a band.
The Arctic Monkeys - Just a band.
The Next Big Thing - Just a band

Anything and everything is overrated, especially bands. Theyre just people who sing songs. People have to remember that theres no point in idol-worshipping them. Oh, and Panic At The Disco! should crawl into a hole and die. No one should put an exclamation mark at the end of their name.

The Sex Pistols' only remotely good song is "Pretty Vacant".

I have never idol worshipped any band, however many bands have been able to articulate my frame of mind at that point of time better than I could myself so many many bands are not JUST a band. If you feel that they are, then you are not listening properly.

Bodies is the embodiment of what the Pistols could have been sans commercialism. Both musically and lyrically it is a true punk track.

I don't get Bodies really. It's about abortion, and it seems to be against it, but knowing the The Sex Pistols, I have no idea where they're coming from.
