i don't like James Brown much

all his songs are usually I-IV-V progressions, and he shouts, not sing, with the really irritating grunts

i only sorta like "Please Please Me" and "It's a Man's World"

overrated

inclined to agree.
His albums are unnecessarily long and drawn out, with the same shouts over jazzy instrumentals.
Tone it down JB.

I believe its just a fancy trend, not to like Nickelback because others say they dont like it either.
Every song sounds the same, plus Chad Kroeger's voice is horrid.

I completely agree on both counts. I didn't like 'em in 1992 and I don't like 'em now. Didn't like Mother Love Bone either although I thought it was better than PJ.

P.H.U.Q. is on my short list (meaning top 200 or so) of the greatest albums ever made. Ginger is an ungodly great producer too.

As far as pop music goes, Katy Perry is actually quite competent. Taking "The One That Got Away" for even just lyrical value, it's actually better than a great deal of indie **** I hit up. There's something there.

For sure. And it could be partly me wanting to hit that, but I really think it's objective. Essentially, she tells a story with that track, and it doesn't whollly muddle the point into oblivion. I think of modern pop artists, Miss Perry may have some staying power.

I agree about Katy Perry actually. She's a step below Lady Gaga but a whole lot more interesting than the vast majority.

I didn't want to admit it, but I liked that song as well.
She listens to Radiohead (at least according to that song) so she can't be all bad.
