I do agree with that... Building Steam with a Grain of Salt is pretty much my warm up every time I'm trying to get motivated to do some boxing. One of my favorite songs too. But the rest really don't seem that impressive to me, I enjoy the album and when it came out it may have been groundbreaking, but I can just think of so many all around better albums. And while it took me a while to come around to the band, Blue Lines is a much better album and came out years before imo. I guess it is a bit less trip-hoppy though.

Britpop in general, exceptions are rare.

Interpol - Turn On the Bright Lights
I agree a lot with Mr Generic here.

And I see Endtroducing has been brought up as well, I didn't understand the hype about that when I heard it.

just own up to the fact that you listen to "Dad-Rock" without technically being a dad.

you like what you like, it's just so happens that you are in the age range but even if you were younger and still enjoyed it, it wouldn't matter.

Question

Isn't Dad-Rock and Classic Rock basically the same thing/genre?

Yeah I believe so, I don't even like to call Classic Rock that term, I rather be more specific and say either the type of Rock it really is or at least group it into the decade but just to lump bands into Classic Rock, just seems wrong imo.

I personally dislike both terms. It seems to me that they just lump numerous sub-genres of rock together in one vague label.

I agree with you both. I just try not to be a "genre nazi", although I have to admit that all the different strains and categorizing of music genres can be annoying at times. I don't really mind the classic rock category as far as that goes. I mean, music genres are versatile enough to break it all down to fit each individuals own interpretation. I like the decade concept dj.

Classic rock has got to be the most broadest of all terms and the decade designation does seem to be a great way to break it down. Even then its going to encompass a huge range of bands and albums, making the whole thing largely subjective anyway.

I`d say its needs to be both albums and bands that were hugely successful, influential and critically acclaimed to help narrow down what should be classified as classic rock.

Also should genres such as metal and punk be included in classic rock as well, two genres that despite being huge, largely have their own fanbase and are genres the average music listener may not really be into.
